There have been a lot of visitors to my site to download the Tinderbox Build of Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1. The downside to this build is that the uninstaller does not work properly and there are a lot of extension incompatibilities. I have since devised the best solution that i can think of so that people can test this version without messing up any other Firefox installations.
All you have to do is download the Portable Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1 file below. Then you unzip the file and browse for the file PortableFirefox.exe. Just execute that file and you will be running Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1! The profile is kept with the PortableFirefox folder so you don’t have to worry about messing up your other profile and the uninstallation process is simple…just delete the folder!
I have not fully tested it for all compatibilities but I am using it right now and it seems to be working like a champ. I will probably be consistently updating this for each version of Firefox that is released. So check back here when newer versions of Firefox are released!
NOTE: I am hosting these files off of a private account, so please do not hotlink directly to the files.

Do you have mac port of this software? I’d like to test it’s usability without messing
my Deer Park alpha 2 installation! Or is this version of firefox same as Deer Park alpha 2?
a mirror of the file:

Unfortunately I do not have a Mac port of this software. I would have to have a Mac in order to do that and I am currently lacking that. Maybe in the future though.

Thanks, Ryan! Keep up the good work!
Very convenient. Thanks a lot!
Do you have instructions on how to get this done for the OS X version, so someone with an OS X (like me) could make it available.

Another mirror (with tons of bandwidth, so if you want to download use that instead of killing the first link).
Eeeexcellent!
Great stuff Ryan, I have linked your post!
For all those Mac users out there:
Unfortunately I do not have a Portable Firefox for a Mac computer. To create this Windows version I downloaded and modified an existing version of Portable Firefox:

I am also not familar enough with a Mac to create something like this but I am sure it can be done.

Another mirror for you to download from. Thanks for putting this out. It really helps testing without screwing with your original Firefox installation.
cool! ,now a portable version of thunderbird !!
Ouch… Downloaded - ran it, now all my extensions in FF 1.5.0.1 are disabled and updating doesn’t work. Deleted Standalone FF - still no go on all my regular extensions in FF 1.5
Any ideas?
Any chance of someone doing a portable for Linux (ubuntu)??
… nevermind.

Andrew -
Make sure you run PortableFirefox.exe, not the firefox.exe that the archive also contains.
To fix your problem… you can copy out of your profile directory your cookies and the like as a backup, then try re-enabling extensions in 1.5.0.1 or uninstalling and reinstalling if you can. If not, use the backups we made earlier of important data and create a new profile.
Hi guys - I’m afraid I fell for the post on TechCrunch, and installed the Tinderbox build, thinking it would be alright.
But now I want to uninstall it, and the uninstaller (or lack of) is causing me much grief. What’s the best way of my getting rid of it?
spatieman, pick up your portable Thunderbird from here: http://portableapps.com/apps/i.....hunderbird
Sachin,
The only way you can really get rid of the installation is by deleting the installation folder and browsing through your registry and deleting those keys. To get around this I provided a Portable version of the build so that users can test it without messing anything up.
Let us know if you have any specific issues getting the normal Firefox back and we will try to assist you better. Thanks.

Bookmarks do not seem to work with this new version….
Matt
Matt,
It seems that they started to implement the bookmark features and didn’t have time to complete them. Hopefully in the Alpha 2 release this will work.

How to uninstall portable FireFox?
You don’t have to uninstall it, just delete the Portable Firefox folder.
