SlashDot Site Redesigns Start Rolling In

Yes, it was just yesterday that the redesign competition started for SlashDot but the submissions are already starting to roll in. There are currently four of them that have been posted and they have had about 15 real submissions. The design that is pictured above is the only one that has a real shot in my opinion.

Facebook Moves Into The Workplace

It appears that Facebook is moving beyond high schools and colleges and moving into the workplace. It makes sense that they are trying to expand since they are trying to sell Facebook. The $2 billion price that is stamped on it would hinder most people from purchasing it, but they have hopes that expanding Facebook will increase their revenue.

Google Calendar Button Generator

Google Calendar has become hugely popular and pretty soon you are going to start seeing buttons (like the one to the right) popping up all over the Web. These buttons allow a user to add an event to their calendar with one simple click. The downside to these buttons is that they are kind of a pain to create manually, but now there is a solution for that.

Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 Beta Released For Testing

Microsoft is opening the doors to the public and letting them test ActiveSync 4.2 Beta. This is going to be the next release of ActiveSync, but it still doesn't have WiFi synchronization in it. Microsoft had this feature in an older build of 3.x but removed it because of issues. With ActiveSync 4.x you can only sync via USB cable, Bluetooth, or infrared connection.

Google SketchUp has finally been released, and to everyone's surprise it is free (a little sarcasm, but free is good). If you haven't heard of Google SketchUp then you are missing out. It is a fun little program that will allow you to create 3D models of buildings, houses, decks, and even space ships. It has a lot of customizability so that you can choose textures and really get into it.

Finally! I have been waiting for a Google Calendar extension for Firefox and it is finally here. This extension will notify you of upcoming events and will even let you add an event into your calendar. SlashDot Needs Your Help For Their Site Redesign

SlashDot has decided that it is time for a site redesign and they are having a contest to see who produces the best design. The winner will receive a new laptop, but you have to follow their criteria in your design. The most important thing is that you must use their existing CSS framework that they designed a few months ago when they started to plan for this redesign.
