CyberNotes:Farecast Predicts The Best Time To Purchase Airfare

With airline ticket prices jumping around just as much as gas prices these days, you never know when the best time to buy is. It is so frustrating to buy your tickets one day only to find the next day or week later they've dropped in price. Airfare can become one of the most costly aspects of any trip or vacation, not to mention the hassle of constantly checking for lower prices.

Vista 5552 Leaked Just Hours After 5536 Is Released

Just hours after Vista 5536 was released to testers it seems as though an internal build of Vista has leaked to the Web. TheHotFix.net is claiming that this build is real and it is Vista 5552 which was compiled on August 22, that's one day after 5536 was compiled.

Microsoft Adds Auto-Hide To The Office 2007 Ribbon

I love the new Ribbon in Microsoft Office 2007 which has now replaced the toolbars. The only bad part about it is the large amount of screen space that it occupies. Some people don't realize that it can be minimized by pressing Ctrl+F1, right-clicking on the Ribbon and select “Minimize the Ribbon”, or double-clicking on the selected tab.

Vista Will Not Let You Disable The Startup Sound

One of the first things I do after installing Windows is to go to the Control Panel and disable all of the application and system sounds. I don't want that "click" sound each time I click on a folder in Windows Explorer and I definitely don't want the startup/shutdown "melody!"

CyberDays: A Look Back At Dell’s Homepage

Every now and then it is fun to take a look back at what Web sites looked like when they first started. This is made possible thanks to the Way Back Machine. So why don't we take a stroll back to 1996 and take a look at what Dell looked like.

How Do Search Engines Really Rank Themselves?

I got a funny idea today that will help determine how search engines like Google, MSN, and Yahoo really rank themselves and each other. For each of those three search engines I did a query for "search engine" and also for "search." Here are the results I received:

Windows Vista 5536 Pre-RC1 Gets Rave Reviews

I think most of us doubted that Microsoft would be able to get everything running smoothly for Vista RC1 which is due September 7. It looks like Microsoft has released build 5536, which should end up being the RC1, to testers to make sure it will be stable enough for the public to use. So what's the result? Amazing reviews!

My First WordPress Plug-In: Digg Button

If you noticed that my posting was a little light yesterday that was because I finally sat down to create my first WordPress plug-in. It isn't anything extravagant but it saves me some time and a lot of headache.

Yahoo Intelligently Defends Against Phishing

Yahoo now has a new anti-phishing mechanism that should prove to be a very effective solution. What they have setup is a way for you to customize what your login will look like. If you want to do something simple you can just enter some text, like I did, and customize the color of the seal. If you really want something unique you can always upload an image from your computer.

GMail Lets You Call Users…Almost

Garett Rogers found a pretty cool feature that he has available in his GMail account. What is that feature? Voice chat! The bad part is that the feature isn't exactly what you think. Clicking the button will open a Google Talk voice conversation window with the individual. Unfortunately at this point they do not have voice capabilities directly integrated in GMail.

Happy Birthday Google Talk

I woke up this morning to a pleasant surprise when I opened my Google Talk. They had cleverly replaced the traditional Google Talk logo with one that reflected a birthday celebration. After I got done looking at the logo singing Happy Birthday ;) I began to wonder if that logo is hard coded into the program or if it had to be retrieved from the Internet?

CyberNotes: How To Send An Email To Your Phone

Text messages are becoming a very popular way to communicate with your friends and family. Well, the messages may be fun to receive but sending them is not treat. You have to sit there pounding numbers until your thumbs hurt like they did when you would play Super Mario Brothers on Nintendo.
