iTunes 7 Okay, we knew it was coming and Apple finally updated their iTunes site to reflect the newly released version 7! There is a whole slew of new features, but the overall interface is pretty much the same:

  • Movies
  • Cover Flow
  • Automatic Album Art
  • New User Interface
  • iPod Games
  • iPod Summary
  • Download Manager
  • Higher Video Resolution
  • Onscreen Video Controls
  • Multiple Libraries
  • Library Backup
  • Gapless Playback
  • Ratings and Parental Controls

So it is an impressive list of updates but it was definitely needed since Microsoft has Windows Media Player 11 also being released soon. There is still no word on Vista compatibility on iTunes 7 but I think I’ll give it a try later and see how it goes. Here’s hoping for the best. :)

I am not really a fan of application with a long list of “what I can do”, while I will use 10% of this list. I agree that iTunes may be very good, but I am happy that on the market are still some small programs, some dedicated only to this: playing mp3 files :) .

obviously the movie store is the big new feature, but it’s pretty much everything else that makes this update worthwhile for me. sounds like a solid list of new tweaks.

    Automatic Album Art
I was really happy about that till i found out you have to “sign in” which really sucks, because you need a credit card to make an account.
and all my music is not from the iTunes store! so gr on them!

Update: ive only played about 5 songs and browsed through some artwork. and iTunes is taking 95.5 mb of ram :(
    not cool.

    It’s pretty bulky.

That’s making me think twice about trying it out.

my girlfriend’s two ipods have been nothing but headaches for me at every turn (both hardware and software). this itunes update is no exception.

when i try to run the installer, it just gives me the message “The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured”, and “Finish” is the only button that’s clickable.

i guess i’ll wait a week or whatever and then try again. judging by today’s posts on apple’s itunes for windows forum, there are some other serious issues that need to be fixed anyway.

install failed for me in vista, but considering the amount of music i have on my machine, and judging by what i’ve been hearing from other people, i might be better off without that automatic cover art feature. too bad; i was looking forward to that one, but vista’s slow enough on this old POS as it is.

From what I can see, only the Multiple Libraries seems a good feature.

Will wait a while and then probably give it a shot :o

The installation worked fine for me despite it taking 5 minutes to install (a little long for a smaller program). It did have to install Quicktime as well so that may have contributed to the extra length.

I have it up and running right now but it took an additional few minutes for it to configure everything like the gapless playback. It has to go through each song in order to do that.

    Looks good so far though.

After months of Itunes requesting me to upgrade, I made the mistake of go ahead and do it, so the pop up ballon will be gone forever, well, my itunes too! I got the notification “The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed, contact your technical support group”.

So four days of reading tons of sites and trying lots of way to remove anything related to apple company, still unable to reinstall quicktime, and for itunes now I get the message “The installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured”, but they are gone from my hard drive, how can I get my old itunes back? any sugggestions please?

For the moment I have to use windows media player, which it sucks!
