Google Personalized Homepage Gets Tabs

Google Homepage

How sweet is this? The Google Personalized Homepage has tabs! Now you can add, organize, and utilize the most screen space possible!

I started playing with the feature and one thing that took me a minute to figure out was how to delete/rename a tab. All you have to do is click on the tab to select it and then click on the name again. You’ll then see an “X” to remove it or you can change the name to anything that you would like.

Up until now I had always made sure that I could view all of my modules on one single page without having to scroll, but I think I’ll be filling up a few different tabs now!

Thanks for the tip Adam and thanks to Google for such a great feature!

There are some bugs. I created a new tab and named it Games, then added some games to it. Then I went to my front page and dragged a game module to the Games tab. It worked, and then I dragged the second game module to the games tab. Then I click on the Games tab to see if it worked, and it just refreshed my original home tab and the second game didn’t get dragged over to the Games tab. Also, I expected the loading times to be quick with AJAX like Netvibes or something, but the page refreshes and I don’t like that. I see potential for it, but for now I won’t use this feature.

Will give this a shot, but it’s still Netvibes for me for now…

I agree that the tabs implementation is not as great as Netvibes, but I use so many Google-specific modules that it is difficult for me to switch to somewhere like Netvibes. They do have over 300 modules available but I like having ones to control my Google Calendar with my upcoming agenda and such.

I definitely agree with Max that the tab switching needs to be handled much more efficiently which I’m sure they’ll do.

Yay! Just a few days after I sugested it in a comment here and they implement it. Unfortunately I must echo Mad Max’s comments that it doesn’t exactly work like a charm - pages still load slowly and no matter how many times I drop items onto a tab that tab remains empty and they stay on my front page.

Page loads slowly, not to keen, however its sorta nice, love the changing colors tho it’d be nice for me to choose them. Anyone got a module to remove the search box and logo from the top of the page?, i have a in-line Ajax search box so i don’t need the old one.

 :|  8O :) :? 8) :D   :P  ;) :o  :x :( :!: :?:
