Google Picasa Google’s Picasa 2.5 photo managing software has worked its way out of Beta (believe it or not :) ). The release notes detail all of the new features but here is a brief overview for those that have not been venturous enough to play with the Beta:

  • Share photos online
  • Nested folder view
  • Save changes to disk
  • Improved import
  • Screensavers
  • Geotagging
  • Larger thumbnails
  • New RAW features
  • Improved caption editing
  • Starred photos organize automatically into a special album
  • “Just raw frames” option lets you export time-lapse sequences in the movie maker
  • The bottom row of buttons can now be configured to suit your needs

I have been using Picasa for awhile now it is a really nice piece of software. It definitely shows that Google is dedicated to updating their products so that the users will continue to get new features.

I used Picasa 2.5 beta, which is great (still some bugs, for example on FTP brilliant-idea-but-not-working-well-yet). I am not sure it is out of beta. I install it right now from Picasa.Google.com and… surprize: I get back to 2.2.0. So, it’s not out of beta, or at least they did not change on the homepage and the exe file!

    Using dl.google.com/picasa/picasaweb-setup-beta.exe I get 2.5 Build 32.71. So: where is 2.5 32.91?????

Use the download link that I provided at the end of the article. That should work for you.

Ups… It seems I did not notice the link in the end of the article. So, there is a 32.91 version. Working. I still doubt that it’s out of beta, since the menu have again the “Experimental” options (a final version shouldn’t have Experimental things), but with the mistake I made, I should take a break… Sorry.

There have been several different sites, including the one that I cited, that say that it is out of Beta. Otherwise, typical download links for a Beta usually include the words “Beta” in the file name. I think that this is probably an intermittent build between the Beta and the release.

If you install this build, you’ll notice there’s no more “beta” in the title.

Thanks for pointing that out Ionut. I must be blind because I don’t think I ever noticed it in the title before.

Still haven’t tried this program, but I have heard good words about Picasa, maybe I’ll download it!

Windows users have Picasa… Mac users have iPhoto.

Picasa is the windows equivalent of iPhoto.

    Needs video controls.

Picasa 32.94 available. Here are the Release Notes. Again, with no beta in exe file, but for me (believe it or not  ) is still a beta ;) while it’s not downloadable from the main page of Picasa.

 :|  8O :) :? 8) :D   :P  ;) :o  :x :( :!: :?:
