Netvibes Gets A Few New Features

NetVibes

Just last night Netvibes got a pretty nice makeover that allows people to choose from various themes. The selection that they have available is pretty limited at this point but they are all very nice which is great: quality over quantity. You can access the new themes by going to the Settings located in the upper-right corner of the screen. I think my favorite theme is the Silver one which I have pictured above.

NetVibes Video Search There are also three modules that I don’t remember seeing before. The first one is a MySpace module which is something that I won’t really use since I don’t have a MySpace account. The second one is a Writely module which will retrieve your documents so that you have easy access to them.

The third one that is new, and is probably the best, is the Video Search module. It allows you to search Google, YouTube, and DailyMotion for videos and it will show you the search results right there. You can then choose which video you want to watch and start playing it! This is definitely a clever concept and it almost makes me want to switch to Netvibes from my Google Personalized Homepage.

So who out there uses Netvibes and who uses Google Personalized Homepage? If you use one or the other what is preventing you from switching?

Netvibes is still number one, Google Personalized is a close second and gaining.

Ryan, you can use the myspace module even if you don’t have a myspace account. It’ll allow you to keep track of your friends or favorite music groups and listen to their songs with the embeded music player.
There’s also a nice feature we put in place which allows you to drag&drop a comment from a myspace account to create automatically a new module with this new user…

Thanks for the clarification Franck. I assumed it was like every other Myspace module that I had seen which requires people to have an account.

I am a huge gmail fan, but frankly feel Google personalised is one of the worse ’start pages’ out there. Unless they’re hiding it you can’t see more than the headlines of any feed item, Netvibes launches a nice 2 pane window to read/preview feed content. I use Netvibes and would use Pageflakes and Microsoft live (and I hate saying that) before I would use Google Personalised.

netvibes for me too. gmail rules, but google’s personalized homepage is just too ugly to use.

I’ve decided to make the switch to Netvibes so I will see how it goes. I don’t think there were any Google-only modules that I was too attached to so making the switch shouldn’t be a problem.

Right now my favorite feature with Netvibes is that I can add multiple copies of the same module…such as the GMail module. That way I can have it check multiple email accounts for new mail. Very nice!

Is there a Google-Calendar module on Netvibes? If so, I did’t notice it.

There is one here but I don’t like it very much. I have resorted to using the standard calendar module that Netvibes provides and I just link the iCal address to my Google Calendar (which can be found in the Google Calendar Settings).

 :|  8O :) :? 8) :D   :P  ;) :o  :x :( :!: :?:
