IE7 Logo The Internet Explorer blog recently announced that IE7 will be released sometime in October. I’m not sure how much of a coincidence it is but Mozilla still has plans to release Firefox 2 on October 24, which could be very close to the IE7 release.

Mozilla has had a few setbacks along the way that caused the Firefox 2 release to be pushed back to October 24, nearly a month after its original date. They have been working hard to prevent further delays and the most recent milestone, Firefox 2 RC2, has been extremely stable for most people. They do still want to get some more bugs ironed out so they will be making another release candidate available before the final launch.

Despite the October launch of Internet Explorer 7 it will not be delivered via Automatic Updates until a few weeks after the final version is available. That means a majority of computer users will not be notified of the release until sometime in November. I am sure that is to watch for any unexpected bugs before the less tech-savvy people get their hands on it and start loading it down with toolbars and spyware.

While both Mozilla and Microsoft will have completely revamped web browsers available to the public I think it will be Internet Explorer 7 that is talked about the most. If you compare the two new browsers to their predecessors it is definitely IE that has the most changes…despite many of them already existing in Firefox (the most obvious being the tabs). The Firefox 2 launch will be big but I think it could have been even bigger if IE7 wasn’t going to be released for a few more months.

I am a Firefox user since I was first introduced to it. Although, in the very beginning, I used both because there were some websites that would not work in Firefox. However, I have not come across that other than with Microsoft’s own website from time to time (go figure), and it is the only time I use IE.

Microsoft would have to do something huge and earth shattering to get me to switch from Firefox. I honestly never see that happening.

will the IE7 be available for download 2 ppl without WGA installed?

it would b nice to have something a bit more usable and safe to surf the 2 many sites in Hebrew that don’t support firefox (AKA coding standards).

I don’t have WGA on my system of SP2 for that matter, so I know I won’t be able to download it. I am so devastated too!

I definitely can’t see anyone switching from Firefox 2 to IE7 but this will give people less of a reason to switch from IE7 to Firefox. Most people just won’t be convinced to switch now that IE7 has tabs.

I’m sure it will be just like the pre-release versions where it requires WGA in order to install itself. Give it a few days though and it will surely be cracked.

In my opinion, we could see quite a few people move from Firefox to IE7. In the pre Firefox 1.5 days, there was this huge Firefox movement. But during the 1.5 builds, I’ve seen tons of people grow tired of the memory leaks and other bugs associated with Firefox such as the copy/paste bug.

I am not one of those people because Firefox 2 has worked great for me but for people who simply want tabs and nothing more, I don’t see a reason why some people wouldn’t switch over to IE7.

Well, that is a negative stigma Firefox is going to have to change since these issues have been addressed and corrected in Firefox 2. I been using Firefox 2 as well now as my primary browser and have seen a huge difference in performance and the memory leaks seem to have been plugged now as well.

Well… Tabs and all things in IE7 seems to be little confusing over the simplicity of FF.

I already saw IE6 users saying IE7 seems to be pretty anoying and they won’t update that soon.
I think IE7 at some point of view will be a major reason for IE6 users migrate to FF 2.x

In this moment well… i’m pretty happy with FF 1.5 (0.7) and i ll eventually upgade to 2.0 when first update be realeased.

I too was going to wait, however, I took the plunge to v2 RC2 and am glad that I did. I really like the changes and it has run flawlessly.

I agree, memory leaks now seem to be a thing of the past for me. Running Firefox on Windows Vista for two days straight without restarting and I’m at 125MB. It is still a little high because Opera hangs around 70MB but I never get up into the 300-400MB range anymore. Thank goodness!

Just did a quick check and noticed Flock wiht 1 tab open is using 76MB while Firefox 2 with 3 tabs is only using 50 MB!

Further, I noticed a huge reduction in the past couple weeks (right after RC1) which was about the time there was huge surge in extension updates.

Flock is still based off of Firefox 1.5.* so I am sure it will still have some memory leaks. In fact there are a few memory leaks that Flock introduced themselves which has been one of the biggest complaints. To my knowledge they have not fixed them yet.

There have been a lot of extensions getting updated which is great to see. I am sure anything helps to reduce the cause of memory leaks.

IE7 is still FULL OF BUGS, and there is many software products (using embedded IE) which doesn’t work well with IE7.
While Firefox 2 RC2 is, imho, production quality. :)

Some websites I visit on Mozilla Firefox work fine however, when I use Internet Explorer it says either the program is allready running. I have downloaded and installed it completely, and i prefer using IE better, because of tabs, and it’s content. 8O

Please, I really need and answer.

Do you know how the Firefox 2 will be availible?
Will you get an automatic update, or do you have to go to the Mozilla firefox main page for more infomation?

I’m not sure about your Internet Explorer problem because I have only heard about that happening with Firefox.

To download Firefox 2 I don’t believe you will receive an update. Firefox 2 will be the first version that has the “major update” system available which will let you upgrade from previous versions. As far as I know this is not the same as the update system that is in Firefox 1.5

 :|  8O :) :? 8) :D   :P  ;) :o  :x :( :!: :?:
