Super Video Converter

Every now and then I have to convert a video from one file format to another and it is a pain to find the software to do it…especially free software! That is where Super comes into play. It can handle a huge variety of video formats and can convert them to nearly anything you would want! Here are a few of the converters that it comes with:

  • Mobile phone converter
  • PocketPC converter
  • iPod converter
  • PSP converter
  • VCD converter
  • SVCD converter
  • DVD converter
  • AVI converter
  • MP4 converter
  • MOV converter
  • ASF converter
  • FLV converter
  • MPG converter
  • OGG converter
  • WMV converter
  • GIF converter

The list is actually even longer but those are probably some of the most common ones that people will use. On top of being able to convert videos it can also play/save Internet Media Streams (such as mms://, rtsp://, and http://) without any problems!

So even if you don’t plan on using this program right now I still suggest that you bookmark it, because when you do need it you won’t be able to find it! :)

Download Super (links located at the bottom of the page)

Update:
There seems to be some problems downloading directly from the site so you might want to try downloading from MajorGeeks. Just select one of the mirrors that they provide.

And the lord said “let there be a program for converting videos to other formats”, and lo, there was super.

Media Coder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) is also nice. But Super is a LOT more simple (unless you’re really smart). Hey, have you seen Media Convert (http://media-convert.com/)?

Thanks for finding and posting about this app. I have CyberMarked it and will check it out when I get more time.

Just got into my new home state of Texas and have a lot to do for the next few days. And for all of you wondering out there….I have horns!!!

I really like the bookmarking system. You are using Wordpress for the site, correct?

Yeah, I really love moving! But the pay and job are better, not to mention the warmer climate.

    Yep, we’re using Wordpress.

You’re now located directly south of me since you’re in Texas and I’m in Iowa. :)

Lets see “how” directly…I am in Irving, which is really just part of Dallas on the west side.

  8. Avatar

I guess not as direct as I thought, here is a map. We still only need one highway though :).

  9. Avatar

Only one highway is good. Here is a map of how I had to go from Indiana. I drove straight through and made it in 14.5 hours. BTW…Arkansas is boring!

The download links don’t work anymore. Waiting is bad…

  11. Avatar

Yep, that is always a risk…but I found a backup source for you! :D
I added the MajorGeeks download link to the post.

I’ve tried using to Super to convert .avi files to mpeg2 and there is a problem every time (distorted image). I user another program, Videora Tivo Converter. It works without any problems every time.

  13. Avatar

I’ve also had problems converting some videos with it, but most of them seem to work fine. I think it all depends on what program was the one to originally encode it.

SOMEBODY (PLEASE) HELP!! Recently I’ve downloaded ‘SUPER c’ converter. After ‘inputting’ specifications, file(s) etc, “How?! DO I ‘ACTIVATE’ so that ‘it can do its job’?There are no ‘execute’ buttons around, except the ‘active’box which I’ve Ticked. Am I missing something? I constantly ‘look into/check’ the ‘output’ file [that’s where I suppose the ‘outcome’ will ‘emerge finally’. Is ther any “How To’ menu for it? ‘SOS’ Thank YOU!!

MediaCoder anyone? Under the GPL (open-source) and does multiple formats.

I had actually written about that a little while back:

That is definitely a nice application as well.

SUPER is a great program, but their website is probably the worst one I have ever been on!

    Oh well.

Yeah, I normally download it from a location other than their website. I swear you have to jump through a dozen hoops to find the download link.

  22. Avatar

Personally, I didn’t like super. It just wasn’t user friendly enough. I couldn’t figure out where the videos were going (afaik, there was nothing regarding that in the preferences and help)….and such.

  23. Avatar

It’s a little rough around the edges, but most people warm up to it. I normally just use a service like ZamZar first, and then turn to Super if that doesn’t work.

I have used this app for ages and, like its name, it really is ‘Super’

Thanks for the information. I visited the erightsoft web site and didn’t have any trouble finding the download link.

Here’s the page where the download link is located (at bottom):

    http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html

    Here’s the download link:

    Super 2007 Build 23 [26.79 MB]
    http://www.erightsoft.org/GetF.....Rsetup.exe

Really enjoy your site. Lots of good Firefox tips and tweaks!

I see that the links that I provided now automatically redirect back to the main erightsoft page, which is very wierd. Strange web site indeed!

It is weird, but I think they do that to try and get people to shuffle through all of their different pages before getting to the download.

ok sure i can do that is eay for me.

I’ve used Super for quite a while. It really is great for a free app. It does have some issues, some options aren’t available if you don’t have the right codecs installed and it doesn’t always produce the correct resolutions It can also suffer from audio sync issues particularly with large files such as DIVX movie conversions to Mpeg. It doesn’t do a great job of PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL, this is where you’ll probably notice the audio sync issues most. In fact the only program I have found that doesn’t really suffer audio sync issues when doing conversion between TV standards is ConvertXtoDVD but then that does one job (converts to DVD) and isn’t free.

If you really want to get the best out Super install the K-Lite mega codec pack first then Super, disable your antivirus (and antispyware realtime shield if you use it), turn off indexing on your hard drive and you’ll find it suffers less from minor performance issues, especially audio sync issues. Just remember to re-enable your antivirus and spyware when done.

  30. Avatar

Thanks for the tips Kevin. I’ve noticed that Super doesn’t always work with some of the formats I try to convert and installing the K-Lite codec pack would probably help. Lately though I’ve been uploading files to ZamZar to be converted since most of them are just a few MB anyway.
