Office 2007 Logo Both Windows Vista and Office 2007 have been sent to the manufacturer but before they get released to businesses at the end of November Microsoft will be making them available to MSDN subscribers next week. Vista is expected to be released on Friday, November 17th while Office 2007 should be Sunday, November 12th

Several sites  have reported that Office 2007 is already available via the Volume Licensing site which means that it will probably be leaked soon. Then after it gets leaked the hackers will be on it and I’m sure it will be cracked in no time. I wonder if I should start a timer from the moment it gets leaked to the time a crack is released?

How long does everyone think it will take Office 2007 and Vista to get cracked, about a week?

Probably 24 hours, hackers work against Jack Bauers’ ticking 24-clock.

Well, time will tell now because Vista has been leaked.

I’ve been playing with the doc and docx format, saved a document in both and compressend them in rar. Theese are the results I got:

    Original doc: 48.128b
    Copressed doc: 12.541b
    Original docx: 27.984b
    Compressed docx: 23.260b

It seems that the docx format is simply a renamed zip file, and rar can’t compress it well. For most users it might not be a problem, but I usuallly copress doc-s before I send them and the compression in docx is not good enough.

I never thought to see what the numbers would be like after compressing a file. That is very interesting but I am typically the opposite of you…I just send the file without zipping it. I prefer the new format mostly because a lot of the files reside on my computer and if they save that much hard drive space then it is more room that I have for other files.
