We’re Working On A New Site Design

November 17th, 2006

All of this week we have been working on a new site design and we’re just wondering if there is anything specific that you would like to see? As of right now the site will have a new look and include some nice new features but it won’t be so drastically different that you’re not going to recognize the site. We think it is important to keep the site recognizable but it was undoubtedly ready for a facelift.

When we made the site a little wider a few weeks ago there was some important feedback that we received and have done our best to implement everything that people wanted. As of right now (assuming we keep on schedule :) ) the new site will be launched next week on Thursday at 1:00AM Central Time. Before we complete the work and testing on the new design we just wanted to make sure that there wasn’t something that you really wanted to see. Shoot us your suggestions in the comments below or by using the contact form.

Some of the feedback that we receive now and then is to make the site load faster. Our new site will be heavily optimized and as of right now it loads almost twice as fast. That is pretty good considering we haven’t even gone through our CSS code with the intent of optimizing it yet.

This will also serve as a reminder that when you come to the site next Thursday you will definitely have to empty your cache because everything will look insanely crazy. That is because our CSS has changed quite a bit so things are going to be thrown all over the screen until your browser downloads our new CSS file. :)

How about going to a mothly calendar format (click date on calendar) for the archives. This way we can pick the day we want to view instead of having to decend through that entire month’s posts. :(

Consider it done…mostly because it already is done. :)

You guys should consider making a new logo/favicon. No offense, but your current one is starting to show its age. Also, am I right in assuming that you are changing the color scheme (even only slightly)?

I might keep posting here if I think of any new ideas. Is that OK?

I think the new site should just be simple yet effective, fast and interesting, with everything CyberNet brings all of us. Rock on. :)

A friend of a friend is a graphic designer so we are trying to see if we can get a new logo developed in time for the release.

Yes, the color scheme will be a slightly darker blue similar to what is found in the current border of the page.

Absolutely, that is why I created the post. Between now and Wednesday if you think of anything just post it here and I’ll do my best to get it in the new release.

Simple is the name of the game. We are trying to jazz it up a little though and trying to make simple tasks even easier…like logging in. :)

I’m sure it will look sweet. Can’t wait to see it!

Excellent! I’m not sure about going darker, though. Lighter seems to be where everyone is going now. I guess you’re the ones who are actually seeing it though, so you probably know what you are doing better than I do. Keep up the good work!

A Flash-based site chat would be nice. :)

Actually, I guess not that much darker but we’re using some gradients and stuff so that things, like the sidebar headers, look a little shiny. Slightly Web 2.0ish and not so dull like they currently are.

I think he means just a flash-based chat window/thing, which I could help out with. I’m already doing java-served flash networking and its totally easy.

The header needs to be a different color than the body. I don’t think they should both be white. The login/register/search buttons should be more of the same color as the home, send us tip etc buttons. Those buttons should have more rounded edges as well. I don’t really like the gold colors, but you said you’re changing that anyways so doesn’t matter. Agreed @ logo neededing a change. Also the header needs something else…it’s just so empty. I really like what you’ve done with the login/register thing on your side bar..looks nice. (I’m commenting on his new design if anyone is wondering)

if you are thinking of some online chat options, u can give meebome a try, or also the new Wablet. the last is in close alpha, but i have some invites. and it is far more advanced the meebo is.

I have tried to use Wablet because Max sent me an invite, but I can’t get it to sign into any of my accounts. :(

in my case it did connect, but wouldn’t delete any account. but i suggest u give it another try, cause they are quite responsive to bug report, and do fix things.
