Since the site re-design, we’ve had a few people request that the sidebars be split up to straddle the content. Ryan spent some time tonight getting that all situated. We’re always open to suggestions as to how we can tweak the site to make it good for us and comfortable for you. You’ll also notice that there are collapsible side-bar panels. It uses your browsers’ cookies to memorize which ones you’ve collapsed so that when you return, it will be just like when you left! This is provided that you don’t clear your cookies, and obviously that you’re on the same PC. We’ve also received requests to change the background color for the header. We’ve played around with a few different colors, but haven’t found the perfect fit yet. If you have any ideas… let us know! As always, your feedback is appreciated!
Thanks for reading,
Ryan and Ashley

Yeah, I noticed this about 20 minutes ago. Much improved. Having all of the panels in one sidebar was sort of lopsided, and not very intuitive. The collapsible panels are also very nice, as there are many I don’t use very often. Now, if only you could store the info for which panels are collapsed in a registered user’s account, so that they can travel around and keep their preferences the same. Another incentive to register!
Also, you should probably go with the sidebar color for the header. It makes the most sense, and gives it a sense of flow. If you get too many negative comments, you could always change it again, but, for now at least, you should make the change.
It looks better, with a panel on each side and the post in the middle now. It just looks better, less, jumbled onto one side, just better organized. I didn’t really care one way or the other about the look before, I was fine with it, but I agree it does just look better now.
Looks much better! I would stay with this.
I also agree with MetaMan about the color for the top. Go with the sidebar background color.
WOW. Excellent! Many thanks for this feature. Congrats Ryan!
much better
I LOVE THIS NEW DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KEEP IT, THE COLORS AND THE DESIGN AND EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!
YAAAAAAAAAY!

Sweet!
maybe the ability to move the boxes around? just throwing it out there :p
That looks a lot better! I thought I was the only one that thought this was the way it needed to be done. I too think that the previous design was a bit disorganised and “lop-sided” - nice and symmetrical now, great work.
Hey Nice layout, this looks much better, nice design
I just wanted to add that the content sitting between the sidebars kinda feels … cozy (not sure if thats word I am looking for) but nice nonetheless.
This is nice Ryan.
this is a great redesign Ryan. As metaman said, if you could attach the sidebar prefs to the user accounts, that would be awesome.
Also, there are a few issues with the ad’s. I would add a small space to the right of the advert near the beginning of the post. This would separate the ads and the posts a little better. Also, at the bottom of the post, the additional reading links jump to the left, under the ad. These should be a easy to tidy up and would make things a lot more professional.
Other than those minor points, this design is so much better. the balance in the force has been restored!
Definitely better. I like the collapsible sidebars to. Keep up the good work.
It was a little inconveniently, when content was on the left, with too wide double sidebar on the right. It was wrong. Current design is MUCH better!

I like it better also.
Excellent mini re-design! Much easier to navigate the site and it looks more professional even. And the collapsible sidebars are awesome. Thanks Ryan and Ashley!
Thanks to everyone for leaving such positive feedback. I definitely agree that putting the sidebars on each side balances the content. If you have any other tips on things you would like to see please let us know because the next few weeks I really want to get the design ironed out and just right.
I thought about doing something like that but that is completely new to me as far as programming goes. Hopefully I’ll get some time to play around with it.
I’ll look into adding that this weekend.
I love the redesign to, much better than the previous one, also the collapsible panels are very nice, great job Ryan.
One thing that still annoys me is that the Yahoo Ads run through the article. Perhaps you could place them in the sidebar too?
My “AdBlock” (Firefox Add-on) removes those ads. I even forgot that those ads exists
I liked to bars on one side. The new design seems to be too busy, I feel claustrophobic trying to read the articles if I don’t have the screen maximized. It’s still an awesome site though! Thanks.
We are playing with different positioning of the advertisements because we are far away from making enough money to do this blog full-time. Right now I am lucky enough to have the time to post as much as I do but by the middle of next year this won’t be the case. At that point I will have to choose between continuing with the blog full-time or searching for another job. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to remove that ad as well but I am hoping that as we continue to grow we’ll be able to get dedicated sponsors so that we can remove many of the advertisements on the page.
I definitely promote the AdBlock extension for anyone who would never click on the ads anyways. Personally, I leave the ads because I find some that I like every now and then but there are many people who hate them…so AdBlock is perfect.
It is really hard to please everyone but we switched from having the two sidebars on the side because many people were expressing a disliking for it. This layout seems to have gotten a lot of positive views so it looks like we’ll be sticking with it for awhile. Thanks for your feedback though!
I forgot I had adblock installed here on Flock, works nice…
