For this installment of the 2007 CyberNet Awards we are taking a look at some of the Best Sites for Sharing files, data, and movies on the Internet. We managed to come up with three different sites that all play an important role in how CyberNet functions, and we therefore wanted to mention each of them.
Without further ado here are the best sites for sharing files, data, and movies…
–3rd Place: DivShare–
Ironically I discovered DivShare almost one year ago on the dot. It was two days before we jumped into the new year, and I was astounded by the plethora of features the service had to offer. In particular the file management interface was, and still is, uncontested when compared to other file sharing sites.
Since then they have grown at an almost unmatched rate, and for awhile they were pumping out new features left and right. Now we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they won’t close up shop.
–2nd Place: Poll Daddy–
If you’ve voted in any of our polls I’m sure you’ve noticed that Poll Daddy is the one hosting them. For a little while we had our own poll system, but it just didn’t do everything that we hoped it would. After a little investigating I came across Poll Daddy, and haven’t been able to pull myself away since.
What really makes them unique is the fact that you can completely customize the appearance of the polls using CSS. With that we’ve been able to make the poll blend right in on our site, and if done right, there will be little to tip you off the voters that Poll Daddy is actually the one hosting it.
–1st Place: Viddler–
There is no doubt in my mind that Viddler is the best video service available. Unfortunately their market share is nothing near other popular sites like YouTube, because they are truly deserving of great things.
They have incredibly fast processing times, and I’ve never had to wait more than a minute or two for my video to be ready after it finished uploading. Almost all of our screencasts are hosted on Viddler, and it’s safe to say that we would be lost without them.
If you look deep into Viddler you’ll start to take notice of the advance features they offer users, such as:
- Advanced stats – You can actually see what sites your video is being viewed on, and just how many times it has been viewed there.
- Permissions – You control who can comment, embed, tag, and view your videos.
–And Your Winners–
Now it is time for you to chime in! Let us know in the comments who earned your “Best Sites for Sharing” award.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the award! Great news. can I place it on our site?
Lenny,
PollDaddy.
What recommendations does anyone have for sharing files with a closed group of people? I want to record band rehearsals and make the mp3s available to the group but not to the world. The file sizes might be around 100 mb.
I would use DivShare for that, and just password protect the files. Then you can share the password with the people you actually want to have access to it.
I’m glad that Viddler is being recognized. I too think they are the best video service available.
Ryan, thanks so much for including Viddler in your list. As a smaller company, working hard to build a community that loves our product, I can sincerely say that this means a lot to us. Thanks again…
Agree with you the Viddler is top of the list for video sharing. There’s nothing like it right now in terms of granular control of who you share/don’t share your media with. It allows you to record directly in the browser AND upload your already pre-edited clips. And most of all, it’s feature for leaving comments directly in the video timeline is, I think, the its most amazing feature.
A friend left a comment the other day to the effect, “I’m abusing Viddler’s commenting system because it’s so easy and fun to leave comments on videos.” I think that pretty much sums it up.
So happy to see Viddler being recognized! There’s tons of video sharing sites out there, putting focus on feature this and feature that. Viddler, while feature rich (and the stats you mentioned are a POWER feature for video-bloggers), also gives an even bigger bang for the buck because they make it so easy to share AND RESPOND! Between in-video text and video commenting, and a community that’s not full of trash-talking users, Viddler becomes an amazing community-powered tool that lets users engage each other like no other. That’s what sharing is really about. Not eyeballs, but engagement!
Kudos to the whole Viddler team, who are just as kind as they are talented (and that’s quite a bit of both).
And thank you for CyberNet for deservedly recognizing them!
It has been my experience that it is the smaller companies that really make waves and break new ground. The challenge is keeping that vanguard spirit as the company grows.
Thankfully I think Viddler has the people on board to make sure that doesn’t happen. The great thing is that we are just beginning to see the tip of the Viddler iceberg, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in 2008.
Good job guys!
I agree that Viddler is the best video service ever!!! It’s fun to leave comments on videos!
Viddler is definitely the bomb. Glad you agree!
Hey Ryan, it’s awesome to see that Viddler made the list. As a part of the Viddler team, it’s always nice to see when Viddler gets recognized, so thanks for the award!
@Colin & Andrew: We’re glad you saw our article because it’s our way to say thanks for making such an incredible service. Our screencasts thank you as well!
Viddler is the way to go. Great features, fast response, no junk, great policies…what’s not to love?
I use blip.tv for hosting my vids. I’ve known abt viddler for sometime now but never used them. I just uploaded one video of my nephew. It was encoded in 640×480 res. and it just seems too pixelated and jagged on viddler. I uploaded the same video on blip and the result is much better. So i am sticking with blip for now.
my two cents.
