Retailers Already Selling Consumer Versions of Vista
Despite the fact that the official launch of Windows Vista is not until January 30th, some retailers show that they have it in stock, and ready to ship. One such store is Newegg, and their website shows that they have Vista 32-Bit Ultimate 3 Pack DVD-OEM for $599.99, Vista 64-Bit Home premium 3 Pack DVD-OEM for $349.99, and Vista 32-Bit Business Single Pack DVD-OEM for $149.99.
Now, you’ll notice that these are OEM versions of Vista. Typically, if you are purchasing an OEM copy, you also have to purchase hardware. Unless I’m missing it somewhere, Newegg doesn’t have anything stating that hardware must accompany the purchase of Vista OEM.
Another website selling Vista is mwave.com who are also selling OEM versions, but require that you purchase hardware with it. They’re also selling Vista 32-bit Home Basic for $89.90. This of course is the most basic, stripped down version available.
If you’re too impatient to wait for the January 30th launch, you may want to visit Newegg, or mwave.com.

Cool update! It’s curious how Newegg is selling the OEM versions either 32 or 64 bit versions. It looks like they’re separated and the 64 version is a lot more expensive…
Oh well, 119 buck for Home Premium is NICE!
Too much if you ask me…
Wonderful. The only version I want, Home Premium 64 bit, only comes in three-packs, and I don’t want to pay that much for two unused licenses!
Oh well, maybe I can find someone to split the costs (and the licenses) with
.
If you were going to try and split the cost of the 3 DVD’s with someone you might as well spring for the Ultimate version. At $600 that is quite a steal considering it normally runs $400 a piece. If you tell people that they can get it at half the price I’m sure they would be all for that.
Good point. Thanks for the tip! I might just do that…
There might be a cheaper alternative (if you qualify):
https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/Vista/
I think that link is only valid if you had purchased a PC over the last few months and received an upgrade coupon. Most people will not have this…but I’m sure it would be cheaper.
