In the past, mozilla have only added discreet extensions that don't make massive changes, but are very effective. For example, spell checking and session restore.

I think that Firebug would be a good choice, but I'm not sure that most people will use it. This may alienate a few of the non-geeky firefox fans and add unnecessary bloat

As cool as it would be to have Firebug I agree that it would add unneeded bloat for about 95% of Firefox users. I would rather Mozilla integrate what a bunch of smaller extensions add in terms of features instead of just doing one big extension.

Ethan wrote:
I'm quite surprised that AdBlock was not nominated. That is by far the thing I miss most when I have to use IE

I think that Mozilla has too close of ties with Google to include an ad-blocking solution just like Jack of all Trades mentioned. Think of it this way, Mozilla makes their money by users clicking on ads when they use the search box that is built-into Firefox. If they blocked the ads by default then I'm sure they would see a huge hit in their revenue, and since that is what they rely on for their revenue it is no wonder that they don't include ad-blocking by default.

I agree, and I was very disappointed with the list as well. I think Mozilla isn't going to focus on features that extensions already bring to the browser though. They will try and do things that can't already be done with extensions so that users are able to experience something new. Just like in Firefox 2 they implemented a session restore feature which was already extension, but they also added the inline spell check which wasn't done with an extension yet. I think they try and mix things up a little by providing things that people haven't seen in a browser before.

Well it looks like some these features are also going to be included in the upcoming Netscape 9.0 browser.

is that all? not very exiciting in my opinion.
i can understand why AdBlock/Plus wasn't there, although they don't owe google anything, it wouldn't be a good idea to have it there.

but where is such things like super drag and go or some sort of gesture support (which i saw that it can b done in very few programming lines). a better download support would be good, but i believe its part of FF3 by now.

they should also add the damn buttons for FAYT.
maybe the rest of the extensions we all know and love are more personal, and not a must have extension.

One slight correction: I actually saw the list of nominated extensions from the link labeled [today's meeting] Fx extension guru posted to show places will not be in Fx3a3 in his comments on "New Features I've Found in Firefox 3 so far."

LocationBar2 looks like a great extension, hopefully others feel the way we do about it so it can be possibly be included in Fx3.
The one thing that's a little odd is on the LocationBar2's Mozilla Update page, it says it hides http, https, ftp, file. Maybe if they add the extension to Fx3 they should skip this part, or make it optional

Okay, that makes a little more sense now since I don't recall mentioning that extension.

I agree, that was one thing that I didn't find very appealing. Sometimes I like being able to see whether it is an http or https connection.
