According to BetaNews, Microsoft is preparing to launch their Windows Live Hotmail service in the United States sometime in May.  It has already been launched in India and Belguim, and other countries like France and the UK should expect it in the next few days.

Microsoft Creates Colored Barcodes

Microsoft has created a new bar code system that replaces the standard black and white vertical bars with specific patterns of colored triangles. By doing this they are able to pack in more information into such a small space.

The High Capacity Color Bar Code should start appearing on DVD’s already by the end of this year. Once implemented the bar code would be able to store information like

YouTube’s Filtering System to Debut Soon

YouTube is just about done with their automated copyright filtering system that was originally supposed to launch last year. Google CEO Eric Schmidt calls it “Claim Your Content” and it will help keep copyrighted material off of YouTube by preventing it from being uploaded in the first place. Schmidt says that they’re “very close to turning this on.”

Lifehacker just got done putting together a great guide on supercharging your Gmail account. They mostly cover things like Greasemonkey scripts that you can use, but throw in a few other things, too. They also mention a Firefox extension they created that incorporates almost all of the scripts so that you don’t have to worry about having Greasemonkey installed.

Less than a month ago I wrote about a new meta search engine called Younanimous that aggregated search results from Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. With each search result it would list the position on each particular search engine as well as the PageRank and Alexa Rank.

Younanimous has since been renamed to AfterVote and includes a lot of great customization options. In the upper-right you’ll see a “Settings”
