Everybody knows the iPhone will be released on June 29th, and one of the comments I’ve heard the most is that it’s a bit too pricey to run out and purchase. For those who just don’t want to marry themselves to AT&T for an iPhone or pay the price, there may be an alternative right around the corner.
The iPhone rival is created by High Tech Computer Corp, and they’re calling it the HTC Touch. It has a similar screen and one-touch access to email and appointments, much like the iPhone. It would be based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS and have less emphasis on entertainment and more emphasis on practical business purposes.
One prime example of this is that the HTC Touch will offer a microSD drive and a 1G-byte micro SD card versus Apple which will offer internal flash memory on the iPhone so that there is plenty of room for music and movies.
Further Specs:
- Available in two colors – black and wasabi green.
- Windows Mobile 6 Professional
- 2.8 inch LCD screen w/ 240×320 resolution
- WiFi
- Bluetooth 2.0
- 2 megapixel camera
- microSD card slot
- 13.9 mm thick
For those of you in London, it is immediately available there. It will be released elsewhere around the World over the next few weeks, and available in North America sometime later this year.
Whether or not the user interface on the HTC Touch will be as slick as the iPhone is yet to be answered. What they do have going for them is the fact that it is running Windows Mobile 6 which will make it easier for people to run the software that they’d like. I’m just curious what the price will be and if it will be a top contender in the group of phones labeled iPhone rival.

Look slick…will keep an eye out for this one. But I wonder how much this is going to put a dent into people’s wallet. I know iPhone is 600 bucks…might be in the same ballpark.
Seems like Pocket PC phones are typically $300 to $500, so I’m sure this one will fit in that range somewhere. The device looks like it will be pretty nice, and I’m glad to see other people are taking advantage of Apple’s innovative ideas.
I’d hope it’s cheaper than the iPhone! And yes, it does look slick. I’d love to see a demo of this in action.
