CyberNotes: DeskScapes that make your Vista Desktop Shine

When Microsoft released a DreamScene Preview for Vista Ultimate users, I couldn’t wait to try it out. Once I got it installed I was indeed impressed, but I still felt like I was missing out on the full capabilities of what DreamScene could really do.

Google’s Translation Service Adds Dictionary

I’ve used Google’s translation tool on several occasions, and it’s been extremely helpful (particularly when I was in Spanish class). Their translator is especially helpful for longer phrases and paragraphs.  While it continues to be a service in beta, they have added a new Dictionary tool which works perfectly for one-word queries.

Great Things Coming to CyberNet Soon!

For over a month now we have been working on a site redesign here at CyberNet. And finally, the time for us to release it is coming very soon. I guess the term "redesign" doesn’t really justify the changes we’ve made though, because aside from the graphical differences, there are some huge new features coming as well!

CyberNotes: Use Fotolog for Social Networking via Photos

Everybody seems to have gotten in on digital photography these days.  Even more than taking the photos, people seem to have gotten into sharing those photos with others via social networks and photo sharing sites.

Opera started off the morning by pleasing a lot of people! They broke the news that work on Opera 9.5 is almost to the point where they can begin releasing weekly builds to the public. Microsoft says AstalaVISTA to Longhorn Reloaded

Windows Longhorn Reloaded was a project that several individuals worked on in hopes of bringing Longhorn back to life. It was less than a month ago that the Longhorn Reloaded project released their first milestone, and Microsoft finally sent them the cease and desist letter after more than 60,000 downloads.

Why Ubuntu was on the Windows Marketplace

The Windows MarketPlace is known as the one-stop shop for all your Windows software and hardware needs. Well, for some people it is but I normally never visit the site myself. They do have a nice list of over 5,000 free applications though, and for a little bit Ubuntu was actually one of the offerings.

Calling all Fishing Fans! Now there’s no need to polish up your fishing pole, get out a fancy lure, or go out and buy a new reel and rod to prepare for a weekend fishing trip. Instead, just purchase the pre-release for Hooked (ships in September), a fishing game for the Wii which EBGames is selling with a “free fishing” controller.

So is Vista really more secure than Mac and Linux?

So here we sit, 5-months after the consumer launch of Vista and 7-months after the commercial/business launch. Seeing that security is an important aspect in many people’s lives, Jeff Jones decided to see how Vista stacked up more than 6-months after its release.

CyberNotes: Ever Wonder What Happens to Your Computer at Night?

Some of you may have seen this before because it’s been floating around the web for several years now, but it’s still funny to watch, even if you’ve seen it already.

KDE 4 to have Cool Icon Enhancement

There is no doubt that the typical icons laying around your desktop could probably be a little more useful than they already are. Some operating systems are trying to dive into that by making the icon a representation of what the file’s contents hold, but I’ve wondered for a long time why so many services have neglected to provide a revolutionary new icon.

How do you Manage your To-Do List?

To-do lists are something that help me get through my daily life. Having tried many different to-do list solutions, I began wondering what everyone else is using. For a little while I tinkered with Todoist, which is a really nice online service. The best part about it is that you can deeply nest tasks, and create an easy-to-follow hierarchy.

Hated Internet Lingo: Cookie, Wiki, Blogosphere

Ever since the Internet took off, there’s a whole new set of words that we’ve had to add to our vocabularies so that we understand what’s being said. For example, you go to a web page and receive the following error message:

The Pirate Bay: Now Serving Uncensored Images

The Pirate Bay took an unexpected leap today when they launched the new BayIMG site. The goal of the site is to host uncensored images...it doesn’t matter if it’s porn, comics, copyrighted images, or leaked screenshots...it all has a home at BayIMG. Despite their "upload everything" nature, they do appear to have some fine print on what’s allowed:
