Ahhh, Microsoft definitely has a hard time these days keep downloads behind closed doors. We just announced yesterday that XP SP3 was in the hands of select testers, and now 24-hours later it can be found on the file sharing networks. The information appears to match up to the real thing, but you should be careful because this hasn’t officially been released by Microsoft.
If you start searching around the Torrent sites you’ll quickly find what you’re looking for. Here’s some information that should help you identify XP SP3:
- Name: Microsoft Windows XP SP3
- File name: wb-xpsp3b3180
- Build: 3180
- Build Tag: 5.1.2600.3180 (xpsp.070718-2058)
- Build Date: July 18, 2007
- Size: 339.5MB
I haven’t tried this out myself, but a lot of people have verified that this is the real deal. If you don’t really have a reason to upgrade to SP3 (a.k.a. everything is working fine) then I would just hold off. A premature version like this could cause more problems and headaches than it is really worth, especially since Microsoft hasn’t given it their seal of approval by releasing it to the public.
There are also some rumors floating around the Vista SP1 has been leaked, but that is not the case. There is a torrent available that contains a bunch of Microsoft hotfixes, but it is not an official SP1 installer. According to sources, testers currently have to install a fresh copy of Vista that has SP1 integrated into it in order to test it. So don’t be fooled by imitators.

You could be right doknir, but I’m sure the final version of Vista SP1 will be just like the XP service packs. That would be crazy if everyone has to reinstall Vista just to update it.
