There are a few sites around the web reporting that Best Buy is charging a “Halo Tax” by adding $3 to the price of most Xbox 360 accessories that you can buy. The fact of the matter is, Best Buy really isn’t upping their prices just for the launch of Halo 3 (and the people who will presumably run out to purchase an Xbox 360 console and accessories). In general, they often charge more than the suggested retail price for all gaming accessories to increase their profits.
So what’s the point of this article? Well, if you care about the $3 extra that you’ll spend on your accessories by purchasing at Best Buy, buy elsewhere. It’s as simple as that. Best Buy does offer price-matching, but many people don’t want to go through the hassle of actually doing it. Yeah, it does seem a little shady that Best Buy marks up their accessories, but considering that they don’t make much off of the sale of the consoles themselves, it’s not surprising.

With many online stores and retail locations that sell Xbox 360 accessories, there’s no reason you should need to spend the extra $3 when purchasing a console. While it doesn’t sound like much, it does add up and it’s money that could be spent on something else, like a game! Also keep in mind that Best Buy has higher prices for the other console accessories too.
