I’ve never been a big fan of splitting and joining files because the entire process is normally tedious. A lot of times it requires the receiver of the split files to have a specialized application installed in order to join them back into one single file. It’s an almost impossible chore for anyone that isn’t tech savvy.
Today’s featured website isn’t one that is going to be useful to everybody, at least not yet. The site is Hitchsters and it was chosen because it’s a great idea that could end up saving travelers money should they expand. Currently it’s available in New York City, and starting August 27th it will be available in Brooklyn.

There is no doubt that one of my favorite applications for Windows is Paint.NET! It’s free, fast, and packed with features. Paint.NET 3.10 makes the application even better by adding a few more great photo effects ().
Ever wondered what the Earth looks like from 117,597 feet above the ground? Yeah, me neither. But the photos you’re going to see here gives you a glimpse of what the Earth looks like from more than 22.27 miles away and it’s pretty awesome. Especially knowing the pictures were taken from a helium balloon which was launched on August 11, 2007 by some guys in Alberta, Canada.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has already had a rough summer. First it was the announcement that they’d be spending approximately 1 billion on Xbox 360 repairs, and now they’re faced with another issue: smoking Xbox 360 racing wheels.
Wow, that didn’t take long. The iPhone launched June 30th, it’s now August 24th, less than two months later and the iPhone has been unlocked from the AT&T Network. Engadget has reported that a team called iPhoneSIMfree.com has created software that takes the exclusivity away from AT&T.
Stardock’s TweakVista 1.0 was just released the other day, and freeware advocates will be happy to see that there is a no-cost alternative available. This is a well-designed app that many Vista users will surely love, and the last time I used it I put together a video of the version that costs $19.95 to purchase.
All of you Linux fans out there are definitely going to be able to sympathize with this guy. Scott McCausland, a proud Linux user, was convicted of downloading an episode of Star Wars illegally over BitTorrent last year.
Right now I feel pretty bad for the YouTube team because of all the vulgar comments they’re receiving over the recent addition of video overlay ads. Most of the comments are irrelevant to helping YouTube improve the ad experience for the users, and if you decide to go look through the comments I’m sure you would see how immature some people can really be.
Today’s Funny Friday is all about funny computer gadgets that were likely designed by a creative geek in one form or another. Very few words are necessary, we’ll let the pictures do all of the talking…
Google Reader users will be happy to know that there is now a desktop notifier for Windows so that you’ll know when there are new items to read. It’s not officially made by Google, but it works well nonetheless. Disappointingly this notifier can only show how many unread items there are, and doesn’t show what feeds were updated.
I just spent some time hands-on with YouTubeDesktop which makes viewing and interacting with YouTube videos much like what you’d experience with a desktop application, except it’s web based. While YouTube videos are simple and convenient to watch as-is, YouTubeDesktop does give you a unique experience, and offers a simple-to-use interface.
We’ve got another free Windows program for you today that’s called WinSplit Revolution, and it’s geared towards anyone with large monitors. The whole point of the application is to give you a fast alternative to repositioning the windows on your monitor. With just a couple strokes on your keyboard you could have two windows tiled side-by-side.
Google has had its fair share of privacy issues, and I don’t think there could be a better time to recap their past incidents. So here is a quick list of the things that have happened in the past related to Google’s privacy (oldest first):
Most of us know that Google Docs and Spreadsheets which comes with Google Apps, while it has its perks, is really no comparison to the functionality offered with Microsoft’s Office. A recent report talks about this and the fact that “Google Apps is useful in a limited set of circumstances” which could ultimately lead to disappointment among enterprises and large companies.

Hoping to compete with navigation devices like the TomTom and Garmin, Sony has announced that coming in February 2008, they’ll be selling an accessory that will turn the PSP (Playstation Portable) into a navigation device.
We all resize images quite frequently, but more times than not the result is not what we want. Either the image doesn’t scale correctly, or we are forced to crop off content that we would otherwise want to have. A solution for this problem might be just around the corner.
Securely sending files to friends and family is becoming a chore these days. Some people ZIP up a file and add a password, or post it to a password-protected website, but today I’m going to show you a more unique way to encrypt files.
I’ve come across quite a few places that let you submit thumbnail images of your own site (such as MyBlogLog), but creating the thumbnail is never as easy as it should be. If you take a screenshot yourself you probably sit there messing with the dimensions and cropping the image until it is just right.
