New Poll: How Clean is Your Desktop?

On Tuesday we offered some helpful tips on ways to keep your desktop clean.  For some of you, a cluttered desktop is never an issue, but for others of you, your desktop is filled to the brim with files, folders, and icons. When your desktop begins to look something like what's pictured below, it can take some time to find what you're looking for.

If Imitation is the Best Form of Flattery…

As the saying goes "imitation is the best form of flattery." If there's any truth to that I would have to say that Opera's ego has got to be growing quickly. Why's that? Back in April Opera 9.2 introduced a new feature called Speed Dial. It gives users 9 shortcuts that are aligned in a grid-like fashion for quick access.

Microsoft Pushes Out a Silent Windows Update

Microsoft apparently pushed out a Windows Update a few weeks ago of which no one had been notified. There were 9 files, on both XP and Vista, pertaining to the Windows Update process which were modified. The files are listed below, and all of them reside in the Windows\System32 folder on your machine.

Google Pays NASA 1.3 Million to Land Jet

Apparently Google and NASA are best buds these days. Despite the fact that NASA's Moffett Federal Airfield is off limits to private aircraft, they decided to allow Larry Page and Sergey Brin's Boeing 767 plane land at their field. The reason Google's co-founders want to land there is all a matter of convenience.  You see, Moffett field is located in Google Land (a.k.a.

Microsoft’s Mobile Mouse & Flash Drive Combo

Microsoft just introduced a new mouse "with a mind of its own" -the Mobile Memory Mouse 8000. It's not going to be on the shelves until about October, and the price is set at $99.

The Woot blog yesterday read something like this: "Woot Sells Out!" If you're familiar with Woot, that could mean a handful of different things.  Their tag line is "One day, One deal" and that's exactly what Woot is all about.  They have one item that gets put up for sale each day at a "sale" price.

Mossberg Says Linux Not Ready for Mass Market

Walt Mossberg is a very well respected technology journalist for the Wall Street Journal, and he was recently known for being the one to head up the Steve Jobs & Bill Gates interview. His articles typically revolve around either Windows or Macs, but his readers had been asking him to jump into the Linux side of things.

CyberNotes: Making Windows Live Writer Portable

The recent release of Windows Live Writer Beta 3 has, in my opinion, put that blogging software well ahead of any competition. The addition of XHTML support is what caused me to switch back, but prior to that I used another free application called Post2Blog. One of the major benefits it offered was the ability to assemble a portable version so that you can blog wherever you go.
