Helpful Tip: Create a Remote Desktop Shortcut

The Windows Remote Desktop is a built-in tool that lets you take control of a computer over a network connection. It is useful for accessing computers that are not sitting in front of you, and it's something that I use quite frequently.

RefactorMyCode – Free Programming Help

Being a programmer myself I sometimes find that I get a kind of writer's block that plagues my brain. No matter what I try I just can't figure out what I'm trying to do, but there might be a new community that is able to help in situations like that.

Asus Eee PC on Sale at Newegg

Newegg is among the first retailers in the United States to start selling the much anticipated Asus Eee PC. They only have the version available (and in stock) which is equipped with the 4GB solid-state drive, and it costs $400 to pick it up. No, the cheaper 2GB model is not yet available.

Leopard Not Secure

One of the things that Windows is always heavily criticized for is the lack of security features out-of-the-box. Windows XP and Vista do come with free firewalls, and Vista has the new User Account Control (UAC), but people still expect it to do more.

Multiple IM Support Coming to Google?

One of the things people like to do with Google's products is search through their source code looking for any possible hints of features to come. As nerds users it is our duty to do that, and the new Gmail 2.0 is no exception.

Video and Voice Chat Come to Meebo

Meebo continues to impress me. First they launched a file transfer feature for their web-based instant messaging service back in September. Then just a week or two ago they brought instant messaging to the Firefox Web Browser via an extension. Now just yesterday they announced that they were bringing applications inside Meebo with the first application being voice and video chat.

When a Geek Carves a Pumpkin

It's Halloween here in the U.S., so we thought it would be a perfect time to show you what happens when a geek gets his hands on a pumpkin and a carving knife. Happy Halloween!

CyberNotes: Best Firefox Feed Readers

One thing that the Firefox developers have stayed clear of thus far is implementing a full RSS feed reader into the browser. Firefox does have a built in system called Live Bookmarks that are supposed to compensate for needing a feed reader in the browser, but as many of you know it falls short.

Take Screenshots in Firefox

We take a lot of screenshots in a day's time, and a good majority of them are of websites being displayed within our browser. Instead of needing to use an external application to snap the screenshots why not get an extension for Firefox that includes an incredible editor!

NOD32 3.0 & Smart Security Coming Monday

Eset is one of the most respected antivirus development companies, and is definitely one of my favorites. Earlier this year we informed you about the product line for their next generation antivirus solutions, which includes a standalone antivirus application and a security suite complete with firewall. Next Monday, November 5th, consumers will be able to purchase the new line of products.

Gmail Hits Spammers Where it Hurts

One of the reasons I absolutely love Gmail is because of their spam protection. Out of every mail service I've tried, theirs without question, is the best. Sorting through spam mail is about as fun as being caught in the middle of bull running wearing red.

Yahoo’s New Messenger 9.0 Beta is Spiffy!

A new version of Yahoo Messenger is launching today with all kinds of new features. Among the changes in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 beta are a redesigned interface. With over 94 million users, it's an important communication tool for many people.  The changes that they've made will make communication among the millions of users easier, and perhaps even more enjoyable.

Get Ready for Gmail 2.0

Today was the first I had heard of Google working on a new version of Gmail after Phillipp Lessen from Google Blogoscoped posted a bunch of screenshots of what the update will look like.  According to Lessen, one of the biggest changes behind Gmail 2.0 is speed. I've never really noticed speed issues, but he says it's supposed to be faster thanks to a JavaScript back-end rewrite.

CyberNotes: Minimize Windows to Thumbnails

I hang out over in the Donation Coder forum from time to time because there are a lot of people over there who have discovered some extremely useful apps. One example of this just happened a few weeks ago when Nighted, a member of the forum, pointed out a great freeware utility called ThumbWin (Google Translation to English).

OLPC Sale Starts with Donations

The last time we wrote about the One Laptop Per Child program was late September when it was announced that they'd go on sale starting November 12th.  Consumers who want to buy one will be required to actually purchase two -- one for them, and one to give.  This "Give 1 Get 1" program will cost $399, and is still set to start on November 12th.

Vista can Notify you of Program Updates, Kind of

I'm a little disappointed in Microsoft right now because they almost included an outstanding feature in Windows Vista. The other day one of the Firefox nightly builds crashed which wasn't a shock to me. And when a program crashes in Vista it always checks with Microsoft to see if other people are experiencing the same problem.

Pause Animated GIFS in Firefox and IE

Have you ever been on a page with a ton of animated GIF's, and all you're trying to do is read the content? It can get quite distracting, but if you're using Firefox or Internet Explorer just hit the ESC key. Doing so will immediately pause all of the animated GIF images on the page. Go ahead, try it with this image:

Make International Calls for Free

Want to know how to make (and unlimited) national or international calls to friends and family? The answer is Talkster.  Of course you're probably thinking that they have to pay for it somehow, so "what's the catch?" There is a catch, but it's a small one and one that won't take away from the usefulness or attractiveness of the service.
