Apple has begun to warn users of the imminent Boot Camp expiration that will be coming later this month. They started winding things down by setting Boot Camp 1.2 (released in March 2007) to expire a few days ago.
So when does Boot Camp expire? There has been no official date set as of yet, and all Apple says is that it will happen when the new OS X 10.5 Leopard is released later this month:
As indicated in the license agreement for Boot Camp Beta, the Boot Camp Beta program expires when Mac OS 10.5 Leopard becomes available publicly in October, 2007.
Boot Camp Beta 1.2 or earlier expiration
The license to use Boot Camp Beta 1.2 or earlier expires on September 30, 2007 (2007-09-30). Boot Camp Assistant Beta will no longer open after expiration.Boot Camp Beta 1.3, 1.4 expiration
The license to use Boot Camp Beta expires when Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is available to the public. To continue using Boot Camp at that time, upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
Yeah, how’s that for being vague? You could wake up tomorrow only to find out that you can’t startup Windows on your machine! I would have at least expected Apple to give users until the end of the year to make the upgrade, just like how pre-release versions of Vista were good for four months after its launch. Honestly I just see that as common courtesy to the people who have tested out your program, but maybe I’m crazy?
So anyone who uses Boot Camp for work better make sure that they upgrade to Leopard immediately when it is released, otherwise your Boot Camp Assistant won’t open!

If I remember correctly, you still will be able to boot into Windows, you just won’t be able to access any updates to Boot Camp.
I’d really hope that would be the case … otherwise there are going to be a lot of unhappy campers!
So the Boot Camp Assistant has nothing to do with the bootup process? I thought that was used to install and run Windows each time. Of course I don’t have a Mac so I can’t exactly verify that.
The Windows Camp gets Apple’s Boot in it’s a$$! So much for you Windows weenies.
