Nice article!

Just a comment on the Speed Dial Homepage Button. You can create a shortcut that takes you to SD. Edit shortcuts in preferences and add a new one. The action you want is called "Show speed dial". I think it's faster than closing a tab and opening a new one just to display SD.

Yeah there is a setting for it, I just turn it fully off and use one of the menu bar buttons which doesn't support the disable/enable feature since this way you can just click the whole thing.

The setting is 'Show Menu' Under User Preferences section of opera:config.

I'm actually not completely sure how that works, but I know it is possible to do without needing to use a button. It takes an extra step or two, and I can't exactly remember what they were, but it's not nearly as nice as what the button offers.

[div id=commentquote]<a href="#comment-116929" rel="nofollow">GJ wrote:</a><blockquote>If you want to make Opera start from the Speed dial page, just select “Start with empty page” from the Preferences.</blockquote>[/div]
I did actually know that, but I need Opera to restore all my tabs every time. Otherwise I would lose a lot of my work.

That's actually a great tip! I didn't know that. :)

Nice article. The menu bar hiding is a nice idea, is there a hidden setting inside Opera anywhere to do it, or how does the button manage to hide it?

Just for a hint, the Speed dial page is used as a substitute for empty page, so you can just create a new tab to access it quickly. If you are using mouse gestures, it is as quickly as just holding the right mouse button and dragging shortly downwards, and you have the speed dialing there.

If you want to make Opera start from the Speed dial page, just select "Start with empty page" from the Preferences. Weirdly enough on this user account I don't have that option, instead I have "Start with no open tabs". Doesn't concern me really since I always have all the sites I visit open in tabs all the time and have Opera automatically continue from the point I left it when closing.

That mapping function looks pretty cool. Also, I didn't know you could adjust title or set shortcut for bookmark folder. The title's some pretty major customization to be built in :)

For downloading w/ default settings / no prompts, I drag the file's link, or current tab if I'm on the file, into the transfers panel.

Wow, homepagestartup.com looks like the biggest rip off yet.
