Awn 0.2 – An Unbelievable Dock for Linux

Avant Window Navigator (Awn) 0.2 was just released, and there is no doubt that it is one of the best looking docks I've seen on any operating system. There is a video below that shows all of the cool icon effects, including the sweet reflection. Before we get into that let's take a look at what's new:

Launchy is one of the best application launchers available, and it is about to get a lot better with version 2 that is right around the corner. Just today Launchy 2.0 Alpha 8 was quietly released in the Launchy forum, and I've been using previous Alpha's for over a week. Despite being early in the development process it is incredibly stable.

Windows Home Server for $190 on Newegg

Newegg just setup the Windows Home Server product page, and they will be selling the OEM version for $190 starting October 12th. Microsoft will not be selling a retail version of this in stores, so OEM is the only way you can get it besides for buying a pre-built Home Server device.

Two Main Thunderbird Developers Leave Mozilla

It's been an extremely sad week for Mozilla's Thunderbird email client. We've seen the only two full-time developers announce that they will be leaving the organization at the end of this week. News of this started when Scott MacGregor, the lead Thunderbird engineer, said that October 12th will be his last day as an employee. David Bienvenu then followed up Scott's announcement with his own.

Google Integrates Desktop Gadgets into iGoogle

Google hasn't been known to take the step of integrating their services together very frequently. They offer so many different services, yet often times many of them remain separate like Gmail and Google Reader. It's a natural combo for Google to put an RSS Reader in Gmail - after all, the new Yahoo Mail Beta has RSS integrated into it, as does the new Outlook and Thunderbird.
