Automatically Maximize/Minimize Windows at Startup

I'm sure there have been programs who's windows just won't retain the size that you want them to. Or maybe you want a program to automatically be minimized or maximized at startup, but it never seems to listen. Sound familiar? One option that you have is to right-click on the applications shortcut, and choose Properties.

Sunbird 0.7 is Impressive

For some reason I'm really impressed at how fast Mozilla's Calendar duo is progressing. They just pushed Lightning & Sunbird 0.7 out the door, and they include a completely redesigned event interface along with hundreds of bug fixes. You can see what the new event manager looks like above, and it is much less cluttered than the older version.

Wal-Mart Selling Toshiba HD DVD Player for $198

Take a look at the photo below. Notice anything? It's a little blurry, but what you're looking at is an end-cap at a Wal-Mart store which has 18 Toshiba A2 HD DVD players selling for $198! Yes, that's the same player which was selling for $399 back in April, and currently retailing for $299.

Gmail File Storage Solutions

A few weeks ago Google announced that they were rapidly increasing Gmail's storage space, and at the time it sat under 3GB. Now, however, it is at 4.28GB and by the end of this year we will have broken the 6GB barrier. You have all of that space to use, and that means there's never been a better time to use Gmail for file storage! ;)

Mossberg Calls Leopard Evolutionary not Revolutionary

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal released his review of Apple's Leopard operating system which is set to launch on Friday evening. His verdict? Leopard is both faster and easier to use than Vista. He was able to test it on two different computers - a MacBook Pro Laptop with Leopard pre-installed (provided by Apple), and then on his own iMac Desktop in which he made the upgrade to Leopard.

Opera Link – Access your Bookmarks Anywhere

It's no surprise that Opera 9.5 can synchronize your bookmarks with an online server, and can therefore give you access to them anywhere when running Opera 9.5! That is one of Opera 9.5's most notable features, and the development team just stepped up their game by launching what's called Opera Link.

CyberNotes: Create a LightBox Photo Gallery

One of the hot new ways for viewing photos is using a JavaScript technique called LightBox. I'm sure you've seen it before on sites where you click on a thumbnail, and a fullsize version of the image is superimposed on the page that your viewing. It then grays out the background so that it's easy for the viewer to focus on the image.

Where Should I Buy My Electronics?

If you're reading this, there's a pretty good chance that you have a soft-spot for electronics. With so many electronic toys and gadgets to choose from, and many places to buy, it can be difficult to know where the best place is to buy.

MyFive: Online Mapping Service Alternatives

Online mapping services have come a long way over the last several years, and now there are numerous good options available. MapQuest is probably one of the most well-known services out there, thanks largely in part to the fact that they entered the online mapping world before some of the other major services that we know and use today.

Tweak Firefox’s Address Bar Autocomplete Settings

A few days ago Lifehacker posted a sweet Firefox configuration option that would enable inline auto-completion of URL's as you type them into the Address Bar. Changing that setting took away the necessity to use the arrows all of the time for selecting the first entry listed.

40 Million Users Protected By Avast! Home

My favorite free antivirus solution, Avast! Home, has just hit a huge milestone. Over 40 million people have requested a free registration code since it all started back in January 2002. Looking back over the past announcements you can see that the last year has proven to be quite exciting for Avast!:

Should Email Forwarding be Required?

When you move from one house to another, the Post Office will forward your mail to you so that you don't have to worry about not receiving an important piece of mail.  When you get a new phone number, the telephone company will forward your calls so that people know how to contact you.  With email becoming an extremely important form of communication for both personal and business use, should email providers be required to forward emails to a new address when someone gets a new account? It's an interesting topic and one that Federal regulators are investigating.

Microsoft Posts Vista Ultimate Language Packs…Finally

It's been nearly 9 months since Vista's consumer launch, and 11 months since Vista's business launch. It's hard for me to believe that it's been that long already, and Microsoft is finally delivering all of the Vista Ultimate Extras that had been promised to users.

CyberNotes: Share a Firefox Profile Between Ubuntu and Windows

One of the new things in Ubuntu 7.10 is the ability to read and write to NTFS formatted drives, which is great for Windows XP and Vista users. What that means is that you can create a Firefox profile in Windows and set it up so that Ubuntu uses the exact same profile.

Gmail IMAP Support is Here!

Google has just started rolling out one of the most requested Gmail features: IMAP support! Much like POP3 access this will let you retrieve your email in third-party email clients such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook, but it has distinct advantages over POP3.

Helpful Tip: Disable the System Beep in Windows

One of the things that annoys me the most in Windows is the system beep. It's loud and often happens at the most inopportune times, like during a meeting or a class. All heads turn towards you as people wonder what idiot would have the sound turned on.
