Mozilla Brings in $66.8 Million for 2006

Mozilla was rolling in the green last year when they announced their 2005 revenue of $52.9 million, but in 2006 they were up 26%! Yep, their 2006 revenue totaled more than $66.8 million. As Larry Dignan points out Mozilla gets over 85% of it's revenue from Google.

Google Calendar Offline Support Coming

The eagle-eyed Google Blogoscoped forum noticed that Google Gears has started prompting some users to enable offline support. Tony Ruscoe looked through some of the JavaScript code on the page, and managed to scrounge up two different lines that provide definite clues that Google Gears support for Google Calendar is coming soon.

Mac Market Share on the Rise

Apple's fourth quarter results that were released yesterday confirm that even though Apple dropped "Computer" from their name, computers are still a huge part of who they are and how they profit. We'll get into those Mac details in just a minute, but first lets talk about their record breaking earnings for the quarter.

Firefox 3 – Put More Emphasis on URL Highlighting

Way back in July we introduced a new Firefox 3 feature that focused on making users safer from phishing attacks. This is done using URL highlighting which puts more emphasis on the domain name, kind of like what the Locationbar2 extension is used for.

Rumor: 800 Apple Employees Out of iJob

Apparently Steve Jobs doesn't like greedy people who try to take advantage of him, and I don't blame him one bit. ArsTechina is reporting (although it hasn't been confirmed) that two separate independent sources have informed them that Apple has fired over 800 employees who decided to take Jobs up on his offer to refund $100 to early adopters who purchased iPhones before the price drop.

Sabayon Linux 3.4 Review – Almost Perfect

I managed to find a lot of time over the weekend to play with the new Ubuntu 7.10 that was released on Thursday. It took a little bit of extra work to get the restricted drivers installed, and then to enable Compiz Fusion, but it was well worth it.

Comcast Throttles Torrent Downloads – Workarounds Revealed

Comcast is quickly gaining enemies from the BitTorrent crowd by using new technology to throttle torrent downloads.  The Associated Press was able to confirm that they are in fact doing this through tests all over the nation.  In their report they say that this move is "the most drastic example yet of data discrimination by a U.S.

How Far is the MPAA Willing to Go?

Stopping piraters from downloading movies illegally is at the very top of the MPAA's task list.  Given that, they have gone to some great lengths to enforce their zero tolerance policy, and an exclusive article over at Wired today points this out.  The article starts out "Promises of Hollywood fame and fortune persuaded a young hacker to betray former associates in the BitTorrent scene to Tinseltown's anti-piracy lobby." This situation involving Robert Anderson is just one of many examples of what the MPAA is doing to try and stop piracy, but does it really do them any good?

One of the things that OpenOffice has always seemed to lack is an abundance of clipart and templates. Those are things that people use all of the time for making presentations, writing reports, creating budgets, and more.

CyberNotes: Windows Explorer Groups and Stacks in Vista

Vista is more known for all of its visual appeal than it is for the "under the hood" types of features. One such feature is the new file management options in Windows Vista that allow you to sort, group, filter, and stack your files.

How to Enable Compiz Fusion in Ubuntu

Yesterday I went through how you can enable restricted drivers in Ubuntu 7.10, but that was only part of my struggle while trying to get Compiz Fusion turned on. Enabling the advanced graphics should technically have been a piece of cake after getting my 3D-enabled ATI drivers installed on my ATI X1400 graphics card, but that wasn't exactly the case.

Install and Enable Restricted Drivers in Ubuntu

One of the new things in Ubuntu 7.10 is the one-click enabling of restricted drivers (a.k.a. proprietary drivers). This is important because it will give users the best experience possible, and I've received several inquiries in our Ubuntu 7.10 from people wondering how they are supposed to enable these drivers in Ubuntu.
