Google has been able to offer basic directions to users of their map service for quite some time, just like what most other map services out there offer. All you do is enter in your starting and ending destinations and then Google calculates the fastest route. It's always been a pretty quick process, but Google wanted to make it even faster and better than some of their competitors.
The developer of the famed Quicksilver application (Macs only) has decided to open up the source code for the program. Is it a big deal? A lot of people are excited about the news, but Quicksilver was already designed to be an extremely extensible system via plugins.
Lifehacker's Adam Pash just released the 6th installment of Texter, which can shave an insane amount of time off of repetitive tasks. Texter is used to make text replacements as you type. For example, you can have the "hotstring" be replaced with a customized text signature each time it is typed.
This coming Friday, November 9th, is another big launch date for Apple. It's the day that the iPhone officially goes on sale in the UK. Apple's press release says the phone will go on sale at 6:02 PM, but I'm sure that's a typo and they meant to say 6:00. So here's what you need to know:
Opera Mini 4 was just released today, and it is a huge step forward in mobile web browsing. This is one of the few browsers that offers a full view of the website being requested, much like what you would expect from a desktop browser.
At last, Microsoft has launched @live.com email addresses! These addresses were originally rumored to launch back in June of 2006 but ended up being a no-show. Between then and now there have been multiple "tricks" or loopholes that were found (here, here, here, and here) which allowed people to create accounts before they actually launched like I did (notice the "registered since" date):
