That's a good point. Maybe Microsoft will find a way to run apps in their free Virtual PC, but making them feel like they are running on the host operating system. Kind of like Parallels is able to do for Macs. That way people could run their old applications without feeling like they are using a virtual machine.

I find a clean install is always the way to go when upgrading; especially when skipping a version during the upgrade. The question is will Windows 7 really be modular as they say it will be? If it is it may run well on the same hardware as XP, something Vista can't do well. It will be interesting to see what happens in regard to this.

I've been hearing a lot of people saying that if Windows 7 is good then they plan on upgrading from XP, but I think the initial result is going to be an unpleasant one. Drivers will have problems, software compatibility will be poor initially, and there will likely be problems all around. That's always the case when a new version of Windows comes out.

People want revolutionary change, but they also want extensive compatibility. Unfortunately I don't think there is a happy medium.

I guess Microsoft is really desperate to try to recapture some of the Microsoft faithful to be releasing the next version so soon. I think it's a good idea since Vista is not looked upon so well in the poll of public opinion. If all I'm hearing about version 7 is true maybe it will be worth the upgrade from XP, much more so than Vista. I just hope they will have enough drivers in place and better x64 support before v7 is released.

If they are really going to release it in second half of 2007 then a lot of work is cut out for them because as they say it will have a fundamentally different architecture from windows then not much time is left. But after observing their efforts with Vista I don't have high hopes but time will decide 8O.

I would say isn't that a bit too soon, but then again Ubuntu (and most other Linux Distros) have a 6 month release cycle with every couple of years a LTS, Mac has a yearly release, so it won't be too bad but since Windows is such a huge market share, I really don't know how the public is going to act especially since Win XP was on the market for 5 years. In those 5 years the market share for computers have gone up dramatically so this is going to be one heck of thing to to chock down for some people.

Just wow. MS will **** themselves about this information getting out. Remember how mad they were when the fist leak happened regarding v7 right about the same time when everyone was realizing that Vista is a rotten egg? They must be in a HUGE hurry to get Windows 7 out based on all the negative feedback they keep getting over Vista.

This time around they sure as heck better offer something besides higher system requirements, useless graphics, and little tangible improvement over XP.
