Thank you very much .. :idea: During one of the night build updates my icons must have got turn back to 'small' - AND that does not use the new vista icons but the old XP ones..

Just turned 'small' off and my great vista ones are back! :D

There are definitely some bugs that are annoying with the bookmarks, but I'm guessing they will have all of that ironed out by the time the next Beta is released.

I use both Opera and Firefox regularly, but the last time I checked you can't search for add-ons for the Opera browser without going to a website. Not only that, but Opera only has widgets available.

The small icons are still the old ones as leland pointed out, but they will be changed over once they've got the icons looking the way they want them to.

I assume you're talking about it showing results as you type? In that case no.

It will be using some of the standard Linux icons, and will not look like what you see above. We have a Linux screenshot available here: http://cybernetnews.com/2008/01/17/mozillas-progress-on-platform-specific-themes/

Hey xpgeek, I am using the latest nightly right now. Yes, you still have the option to "use small icons" when customizing the toolbars which at this moment are still the old icons. I suspect these will be fully updated too by the time beta 3 is released.

I must say it does not look as weird as I thought it would. My most needed extensions work with it too for the most part with a few quirks, but I am sure they will get better the closer we get to release.

<i>"I definitely don’t like how that theme looks on Vista, and I don’t think it would look all that much better on XP. As other people have iterated before the theme has a plastic-like look to it that makes it feel like a toy."</i>
Give it a try, you might be surprised. Looks great here on XP Royale.

Can Ryan answer a question for me, since I haven't bothered to test and or play with nightlys since beta 2, these new icons, are just the normal sized ones right? Theres still the 'use small icons' option when customizing toolbars ????

This "big new feature" ....... well Opera has had it for some time now. So I'm not really sure why it's creating such headlines? Don't get me wrong Firefoxers, I'm not dissing FF. However it does ike me that Opera isn't given the credit it deserves. After all it DID invent tabbed browsing, and is often the industry leader in features that most browsers go on to release in later versions.

There are many features that Opera posses that easily do outrank FF and IE. It's worthwhile trying people. It's hard not to be impressed. V9.5 is the Beta (but VERY stable in my experience), and V9.25 is the stable release.

I just want to see the Places (bookmarking) bugs worked out. There are some reported bugs with it and dragging/dropping, ordering and other bookmark operations have been very problematic.

bug 405198 - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405198

That has been the only thing that has kept me from switching over to the Firefox 3 Beta versions for most web-browsing.

Many more Add-on extensions are getting updated to support the new Version 3 which is good to know.

For (most of) those that don't, I've had good success hacking the XPI file and bumping the max version number up to "3" or "4" so the install goes on.

Firefox 2.x has been a very enjoyable build for me, and I have liked what I seen in Firefox 3.x so far.

Can't wait for it to be finalized.

"And no, the theme is not the “big new feature.” Just the other night Mozilla rolled out a new section to the Add-ons manager for finding extensions without ever going to the add-ons site:"

That is one sweet addition...can't wait! Although I do like a similar feature that Ubuntu has via Add and Remove but the extensions on that are a bit outdated!

@Tom:

Don't worry. Firefox 3 will include color management (ICC profiles) following the trail of Apple Safari. It's in Mozilla's list. Another reason to surf the web with the Fox.

Firefox rocks!

Regards,

Omar.-

@Ryan:

One of the reasons I have a high degree of respect and admiration for Mozilla is their passion and dedication for their products. It's encouraging to see all the effort behind Firefox 3 as it evolves into a finished product.

I don't see this sense of purpose and passion in other browsers' organizations. When Firefox 3 finally hits the streets as a polish product, it will make the other guys start moving their feet or.....left behind eating the dust.

Regards,

Omar.-

Until Firefox improves its color management, I could care less about trivial features like themes. I've read FF 3 intends to improve its color handling, so I'm hopeful.
