Dell and Microsoft Join in on (PRODUCT)RED

Microsoft and Dell have just announced that they are teaming up to join in on (PRODUCT)RED.  As many of you probably already know, it is an initiative started by U2's Bono and another man, Bobby Shriver, and the purpose is to raise money for the global fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.   Several other companies like Apple, Gap, and American Express have already been participating for quite some time since the project launched two years ago.

Ultimate Software Update Monitor?

I'm still on a quest to find a great software update monitor so that I know when new versions of my favorite apps are released, and I just found a new one that looks promising. To recap we've showed you how to create your own software update monitor, reviewed UpdateStar, tried out AppSnap, played with File Hippo's Update Checker, and gave Secunia PSI a whirl.

iPhone as a SideShow Competitor? I Think So!

Earlier today I was over at jkOnTheRun and read something that really caught my attention. It was an observation that the iPhone could potentially turn out to be a Vista SideShow Competitor. Now, before we get into the details of how the iPhone work great as a Vista SideShow competitor, I thought we'd review exactly what it was first. On Microsoft's website, they explain it as the following:

Ever since CBS acquired social music service Last.fm for $280 million last May, we've been wondering what they intended to do with the service and how it would be beneficial to CBS. Now we know.  The last.fm blog entry posted today titled 'Free the Music" explains it all and how they have a business model, a method for bringing in revenue which is something that will ultimately benefit CBS.

Vista SP1 Release Date: February 15th?

There's some speculation floating around that Windows Vista SP1 will be released on February 15th, which is three weeks away from this coming Friday. Vista users could look at it as a belated Valentines Day present from our buddies over at Microsoft.

CyberNotes: Switch Between Multiple Site Logins

There was a lot of excitement when we wrote about the Greasemonkey script that could be used to switch between multiple Gmail accounts. At that time Thilak commented about a Firefox extension that basically accomplished the same task. With it you create user profiles that you can switch between, and it uses a different set of cookies for each of the profiles.

IE 8 Will Not Follow Standards By Default

The Internet Explorer team is at it again pointing out that Internet Explorer 8 is looking to closely follow the web standards we've all become accustomed to in other major browsers. Earlier they demonstrated that IE 8 currently passes the Acid 2 test, and the IE blog actually admitted their lacking of compliance with the standards in the past:

Pownce Jumps Out of Beta and into the Public

It's been about six months since Pownce first launched into an invite-only beta, and now they've jumped out into the public. It's considered to be a "social networking and micro-blogging" site, and it resembles Twitter quite a bit except with more features.

Windows 7 Sucks, I’ll Stick With Vista

A Neowin forum member wrote a post outlining features for what is supposedly Windows 7 (build 6.1.6519). Almost as quick as he wrote the post he also deleted it, but not before a Neowin administrator grabbed a cached version. As expected people are questioning the integrity of the review because no photos or anything substantial was included. Here's an overview of what was said:

eBay’s CEO Meg Whitman Says "See Ya!"

eBay's CEO, Meg Whitman said shortly after she came onboard at eBay that "no CEO should stay more than a decade in the same job because people need new challenges and organizations need fresh perspectives." She joined the company in March of 1998 when there were only 29 employees employed over at eBay.

What’s Going to Happen to Yahoo?

News coming from both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal tell us that Yahoo will be laying off hundreds of people, and it's going to happen soon. After taking a look at the last couple of years over at Yahoo, it's completely understandable why these layoffs are imminent and necessary. Yahoo stock has taken a nose dive down and has declined around 50 percent since the end of 2005.

Joomla 1.5 Features & Screenshots

Joomla 1.5 was just released earlier today, and it is a huge milestone for the content management system. There was so much excitement that this morning I had troubles even getting to their site to retrieve some information about the new version. Once we got in we grabbed several screenshots of the improved admin interface and posted them below.

CyberNotes: Mobile Blogging (Moblogging)

These days Internet access is available almost anywhere you go. Even if you refuse to pay for wireless Internet through your cellphone carrier, there are normally plenty of hotspots around town for you to stop in on. Once you get connected you can whip out a mobile device, such as a Pocket PC or cellphone, and blog away.

Vista Recovery Disc

I've had numerous emails sent to me wondering how people can use Vista's advanced system recovery options when their computer doesn't come with a Vista installation disc. One reader also pointed out that this was a problem when trying to fix the "BOOTMGR is Missing" error some receive when starting up their computer.
