Best Buy Loses Computer, Woman Files $54 Million Lawsuit

If you were to take your computer to a repair shop and they ended up losing it, what would you say is fair compensation? I'd say at least the amount it cost to purchase the laptop in the first place, and then maybe a little extra to cover the hassle and time it took to get it replaced would be fair.

Vista SP1 vs. XP SP2 Performance Tests

Now that Vista SP1 has been released there's no surprise that performance tests and benchmarks are going to start flooding the Internet, and not surprisingly XP takes the crown in most of the cases. ZDNet has gotten the ball rolling (here and here) with their test results:

Firefox 3 Add-ons Website Preview

In the coming months Mozilla will be shipping the Firefox 3 browser, and with that comes a redesigned add-ons site. A preview of the new add-ons site is currently available, and I have to say that it is head over heels better than the current site. Things like the search box really stand out, and search results are laid out in a more friendly format.

Wine, for those of you unfamiliar, is a free tool available for Linux which lets you run Windows applications without needing to run Windows in a virtual machine. I think Wine says it the best: ""

Toshiba Saying R.I.P. to HD DVD

Toshiba is about to say farewell to HD DVD after a long hard battle. HD DVD was originally developed and designed to be the successor to regular DVDs, and they officially launched in the United States back on April 18, 2006. Their biggest problem all along has been Sony's Blu-ray, their direct competitor which launched a few months after they did.

CyberNotes: A Visual Tour of Windows 1.01 – Vista

Over the course of the years as Microsoft has launched new versions of Windows, there have been three things (among many, really) that have consistently changed: the start-up screen, the calculator, and the program manager/Start menu.  Thanks to a site I recently came across called Guidebook Gallery, I was able to get screenshots of all three from most versions of Windows starting at 1.01.
