Apple has finally gotten around to updating their MacBook Pro line of laptops with the multi-touch trackpad that was introduced on the MacBook Air back in January. With the new trackpad you’ll be able to “pinch, swipe, or rotate to enlarge text, advance through photos, or adjust an image.” I think many people were holding off on picking up a MacBook Pro because it was anticipated that Apple would be updating the model with some new features. But if you unluckily purchased a MacBook in the last 14-days you should be able to go back to the Apple store and get some of your precious money back.
The regular MacBook’s didn’t get any of the multi-touch glory, but they weren’t completely left out in the cold. Both the MacBook and MacBook Pro’s start with larger hard drives, faster processors, and more memory (on some models). I guess you can say that the update today was about offering consumers more bang for their buck. TUAW has a great rundown on the changes for the MacBook’s.
There’s a lot of buzz around the Internet about Apple not putting the multi-touch trackpad on the MacBook’s. Did you honestly expect them to? When you walk into an Apple store they need to have features that wow users and make them want to upgrade to the most expensive model. It’s just like a car salesman trying to impress you with the features on a $60,000 car compared to a $25,000 car. Sometimes performance itself isn’t enough of a selling point for people that don’t understand the terminology… giga-what? A multi-touch trackpad, on the other hand, is something you would want to show off to your friends which makes it a great selling point.
Surprisingly Apple also decided against giving the remote control away as a free accessory with your purchase. The remote, used to control your music, photos, videos, and DVD’s, is now an optional add-on that will reach in and grab an additional $19 from your pocketbook. Look at it as a donation to Steve Jobs’ eat-steak-for-dinner fund.
One other thing that I would like to point out is that the 17″ MacBook Pro also got an option for an LED backlit screen, which is uber sweet. By having an LED backlit screen you’ll benefit from additional battery life, which is something that we all want.

Took um long enough.
Really, you thought it was a long time? Here I was surprised at how fast they added this feature after just introducing it on the MacBook Air.
When they didn’t do it at Macworld people were a little shocked and since then people have been waiting what has seemed like forever for this.
The average refresh rate for Apple laptops has historically been 6-9 months. This was just under 9 months. I was looking at an article related to this that said that Apple was 81 days “late” with this release. Based on what? His girlfriend? It’s amazing the level of reporting in technology (and really everywhere today). Facts no longer matter, everyone seems to be writing based on a “feeling” and not one backed up by any facts either!
