Adobe Photoshop CS4 Stonehenge

March 4th, 2008
94 Comments Written by Ryan

I was quite surprised today when I saw an email in my Inbox letting me know that Adobe Photoshop CS4 (codename Stonehenge 11.0) has been leaked. I checked some of the BitTorrent sites and it does indeed look like it is available to anyone that wishes to download it. From what I’ve read the Adobe CS3 serial numbers do not work so you’ll need an updated serial number to get it running, but doing so wouldn’t exactly be legal.

The person who sent me the tip wishes to remain anonymous, but they did let me know that they haven’t found anything new in the release thus far. The compilation date of this build is November 1st, 2007 meaning it is a little dated already, and it was likely an early release sent out to key testers. Rumors have it that this build of Photoshop CS4 only contains Vista compatibility fixes, and not really anything else.

Lucky for you the tipster was kind enough to attach a screenshot of Adobe Photoshop CS4 running in XP with the new splash screen:

There is no word on a release date at this point, but in the past Adobe has released new versions of their Creative Suite every 18 to 24 months. That would mean Adobe CS4 will be available somewhere between October 2008 and April 2009.

Look pretty good but not “lets spend another 1,000 bucks” good

  2. Avatar

i agree with “Google” because i dont see anything new

but i also disagree because the finnal version wont be out for another year or so, and this is probly an early ALPHA version

but what makes me winder is why they picked that name, personaly its not the best name for Photoshop

also why does ADOBE release a new version thats real expensive even to upgrade to then your only gaining like 3-6 new features.

  3. Avatar

@jidery This is not the new “name” for Photoshop. Each version uses a code name. My favorite was when they used the cat that had one weird eye. It might have been Photoshop 6, the Beta was called Venus in Furs with the cat in the clam like Venus with thigh high boots. A classic.

You don’t know what features they are planning. People also have to realize that sometimes there are tons of things that are changed under the hood that aren’t readily noticed, but improvements to speed and functionality are just as important to new versions. Honestly, what doesn’t it do now? If you can answer that, then do tot eh Adobe forums and put in your wishlist item. If you don’t tell Adobe what you want/need, how will they know?

As BalaBushka pointed out that is just a codename. The final version will likely follow their classic naming convention to prevent any confusion.

Performance improvements are extremely important to me, and they definitely made some big steps in CS3. Hopefully they can do the same in CS4.

I think this is BS. The graphic that shows stonehenge on the screenshot is obviosly so crappy, this would not pass as an authentic Photoshop graphic. This looks Absurd. Someone wants to get more hits on their Wiki by putting out false info. Maybe they are setting out to release a CS4, but come on this looks bad.

I didn’t think that it looked that bad, but you also have to remember that the public was never really supposed to see that anyway.

    fake.

  8. Avatar

Well, here is how to get Adobe Photoshop CS4 to work.

    1. Make sure you have Adobe Photoshop CS3 install.

    2. Rename the AMT folder in the Adobe Photoshop CS4 folder to _ATM.

    3. Copy the AMT folder from the Adobe Photoshop CS3 folder and paste at the Adobe Photoshop CS4 folder.

    4. Run either Photoshop CS3 or CS4 and use a Photoshop CS3 keygen.

    5. Now, Photoshop CS3 and CS4 is both activated in one step!

It is fake though…it’s a copy of PScs2 with an expiration date of nov.2007

There is also going to be CS5 one day as well. Isn’t that so exciting? Aren’t you glad you were born? Waiting for the new CS years in advance is a life well lived.

Sorry you didn’t find this exciting, but I know some people do.

You just changed the splash screen and then photoshopped the title bar to say CS4. Not only does it look like photoshop CS3, THE ADOBE CS3 LOGO IS IN THE PICTURE TWICE.

Completely fake. CS4 will be released anywhere from 2-3 years from now.

I don’t think that’s true…judging by all of their past release cycles it will be between October 2008 and April 2009.

Note the “Layer Mask Density” option in the Layers panel, it’s not there in CS3 or earlier.

    Good eye!

  15. Avatar

First off, CS4 is a real “beta” (more like alpha at this release). Want proof? Check out adobe for problems installing CS3. You will find the “clean up script” for cs3. Download it, open it, and you will see, they have added a brand new file called CS4CleanUpAddition.exe. I highly doubt they would create a file and name it CS4 for the heck of it! 8)

  16. Avatar

CS3 performance is RESTORED when it’s not infected with a license service in XP

  17. Avatar

Why is this guy posting this everywhere, there is no Photoshop CS4. CS3 only has a year and is major release. And the Adobe programmers are working on it you probably wont see a CS4 alpha till the middle of 2009 if anything.

  18. Avatar

No way Hose ! :| It’s like an announnce for Windows Vista Second Edition.. There are no such things as…aliens !

this is real, you can search adobe and find SEVERAL blog entry’s pertaining to photoshop cs4 “Stonehenge” trust me i did too see if it was real, and it is available for download all over the net, if you don’t believe me then go look for it and get it, its not like you payed for whatever version of photoshop you have so what does it matter if you get this version?

The new code name is more than likely correct, but this program is a fake… it just looks like someone changed the number and added a new startup screen…

You guys are sooo behind the times! Im using cs5 right now… It uses a psychic link to my brain and includes chicken recipe flash cards! Losers! Chumps! Idiots! Sexy fools!

For those of you who think it’s a fake it is on the torrent sites, so if you really wanted to verify it yourself you could. Albeit illegally.

  24. Avatar

This looks like a joke on Adobe’s part to me…

  25. Avatar

It looks fake to me. But I have heard that Adobe have announced CS4 at Photoshop World recently!

  26. Avatar

    Well…..this is what i found http://www.pcworld.com/article.....ticle.html

Sop it’s clear that Cs4 will run on 64 bit…..and it is yet to come…end of discussion ;)

  27. Avatar

I think that they will make a CS4 soon, because the do have a cleanup file for “Adobe Photoshop CS4″ on the Mac cleanup download from Adobe.
I think that the image that Ryan showed was fairly authentic, I know that it would take me a long time to produce something like that.
Personally I would not buy a new version of Photoshop if there are only small upgrades, but I think that they should fix the Type Tool problem, I’ve noticed that the Type Tool takes much longer to load than any of the other tools on my 2GB of RAM 2.4GHZ processor MacBook Pro.

    Complete report:

So I got up the guts to download the CS4 floating around the network. The un-packing process was more than typical CS versions, but no biggie. With my antivirus progs on full blast, I scanned and re-scanned everything before opening the un-packed folders. So far so good, no viri or troj.

It has the typical Adobe Install .exe and the usual data folders for the install. Clicking on the Installer brings up what looks just like the CS3 installer, including a “CS3″ text logo but with CS4 in the title bar. Strike one..?

A couple typical questions later, it installs and thats it for that. I went to the install folder and found the Photoshop.exe file and began investigating the properties. I dropped it into my .exe Resource Tuner and PE Explorer. Both report that it is, in fact, signed by Adobe and is, in fact version 11.00. The date of the signature is November 2007, which sounds about right for when the rumors of CS4 got loud.

Opening the application brings up the alpha/beta picture, this one is a very cartoon-ish looking picture of Stonehenge. I selected to “Try for 30 days” during the initial screen. Loading time is extremely fast compared to CS2. My CS3 loads in 7-8 seconds, and this alpha/beta of CS4 loads in 4-5 seconds. Nice!!! The rest of it seems to be relatively unchanged.

One quickly noticeable difference is the “Layer Mask Density” slider bar. It only lights up when you have a layer mask selected, of course. It works alot like the opacity and fill, but I couldn’t make total sense of it.

I went through everything else, and so far couldn’t find any other new features. It does look better though. More of the bars/buttons/windows have rounded and beveled edges, making them nicer on the eyes.

Also, it seems faster in everything it does. Perhaps this is some of the better Vista coordination we heard about (I’m on Vista). This is definitely an alpha/beta though. One more thing I found was, during the window for Enter Serial or Try-for-30-days, there are the usual links at the bottom. One for “About Adobe Photoshop CS4″ and the license agreement link. Of course I just had to click the About CS4, and doing so took me to a “Welcome to the 30-day trial of CS2.” Weird huh..

So I’m still excited about CS4, but this alpha/beta is far from finished. It feels just like CS3 with a tune-up. I wouldn’t bother finding and downloading this version. I’m going to delete it after a few screenshots and stick to my CS3 until the real-deal finished product comes out.

As much as I hate being outdated when new software comes out, I can’t help but be excited for the CS4 upgrade.

Props to Jonathan for being brave enough to download the unfinished version.

I should be in a University this fall, so I can get a student discount if it comes out within the next 2 years :)

They’ll definitely have a new version out in that timeframe. They need to try and milk people for as much money as they can get, and that means regular releases are a must.

including the 6.0 “Venus in Furs” that someone mentioned above. I only ever used Finals so I never knew about this! LOL those guys have an interesting sense of humor. I just noticed that all of them have cats somewhere in the photo… (now I’m going looking for the cat in the Stonehenge..)

  42. Avatar

Lol @ the retards calling this fake - it isn’t. The stonehenge graphic was not meant to be seen by the public, this a leaked version of a very early alpha release, which is why it looks practically the same.

To the guy asking about imageready, when adobe released CS3 (I think that’s right), they got rid of imageready and integrated it’s features into photoshop, look at the Animation panel under Windows in the toolbar.

  43. Avatar

This is just great. As soon as everyone gets CS3 (which I do not because I can not even afford that one, still stuck with CS2) they come out with another version. I am just going to wait til CS500 comes out. By then I they should have all of the programs mastered and out of ideas to add to them. This is rediculous. Sure if you are a design firm or a designer with tons of clients and you can cough up 1000 bucks everytime they come out with a new version it is good but for us lowly fresh out of college designers with a very small portfolio can not afford to buy the programs and keep up with the industry when latest version seems to come out every year. I see a ton of jobs that require you know CS3. How can we when we can not afford it or even take courses in it. Broke designer. Anyone have work?

So it’s not my PPC G4 15″ 1.5 ghz 2gbRam afterall or is it the ram? Maybe 4gb gets the type tool to load like normal, like in CS2 or PS5 (my 1st PS).

  45. Avatar

this is only a mod program… look at the user interface ! don’t you have any common sense? if adobe would release cs4, then it would have a what we call “new look”… get that? their icons would be far so different!

hehehe… email me if you’re not satisfied!

Can’t believe it seems noone noticed the openGL option in preferences that replaces the ‘3D acceration option’ checkbox. Or did I miss a post.
Try it. WOW any image zoom, reorientation and resize seems to be a blink of an eye whereas before was a noticeable lag. I tried it on one of mmy hdr/stitched lanscape pic with 12 10mp photos in all and still zipped along.
Really gives CS4 beta a zippy feel to it. Works also when doing anykind of brush work or selection work I noticed.
Heard my GPU’s fan wheering a tad when doing things. Wondered where the slight slip secong wiz noise was coming from whenever used the zoom and found it was my gpu fan. Thought they’d added some sound effect to it.

I’m currently attending a junior college. Last week I was in the Mac section of the bookstore and all the CS3 boxes were piled up behind the counter. I asked if they were “on sale?” The guy behind the counter said they were returning all the CS3 copies back to Adobe as a new release was coming soon. He didn’t know when.

  52. Avatar

The new release is CS3.3 - which includes Firefox and Adobe Acrobat 9. Upgrade for $159.

  53. Avatar

I have a new, unopened Photoshop 7, but considering reselling and buying CS3 instead. Would that be advisable? Thanks!

  54. Avatar

    Or wait for CS4?

  55. Avatar

it doesn’t look much different from the CS3 version.

  56. Avatar

I hope the seam carving image resizing algorithm will be included, that would be a fantastic tool.

Btw, for the ones missing imageready…you can load and edit animated gif in cs3 but you need to import them. File–>Import–>Viedo Frames to Layers
but you wont see the gif extension at first, you need to type in the File Name field *.* and press enter, hold and behold, you can load animated gifs as you used to in imageready :-) and don’t forget to open the animation window from the menu Window–>Animation

Its real but dont expect the final product to be like the on the screenshot. This release is a very early alpha with probably changes mostly in the engine. It is most probably leaked intentionally so they can gather debugging information from fools that want to be on the cutting edge. The final release will be much more feature rich, but dont expect miracles… after all the CS5 needs to be released as well.
