Microsoft Knows How to Get Us Excited About the Future

If there's one thing that I can give Microsoft credit for it's getting me excited about the future of technology. Even though Bill Gates disappointed me with his "future" segment at CES 2008, I would say that Microsoft has redeemed themselves with a presentation that they gave at MIX08.

Yahoo + Semantic Web = The Future

The Yahoo Search Blog has made a big announcement yesterday that discussed their support for semantic web standards. The "semantic web" is often classified as the next big thing for the Internet, but the problem is that not everyone has taken the time to understand the benefits. With Yahoo jumping on semantic web bandwagon it is sure to start picking up steam.

Offline Access for Google Calendar Coming?

Last May when Google first launched Google Gears to bring applications offline, there was a lot of talk about which applications everybody would like to see with offline capabilities. Since that time there haven't been a whole lot of web-apps that have taken the plunge and so the wish-list has pretty much remained the same. Topping our list was Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Gmail.

A Better Speed Dial for Firefox

One of the things that I absolutely love about Opera is the Speed Dial that was introduced back in Opera 9.2 almost exactly one year ago. It basically adds thumbnail images of your 9 favorite sites to the page that is displayed when you open a new tab.

Google Sky Goes Online

Last August Google released an updated version of Google Earth which had a new addition to it. Sky for Google Earth was added and has allowed users to Explore the universe right from their chair and view over 100 million stars and 200 million galaxies. The only downside was the fact that it was desktop based and you were required to download Google Earth to be able to use it.
