OpenOffice.org Redesigns Website, Launches Version 2.4

As we pointed out yesterday in our Daily Downloads the new version of OpenOffice.org 2.4 has been released, and here's an overview of the new features. In my opinion that is not the most exciting news though. To go along with the new release they've also revamped their website, and I have to say that they did an incredible job with it.

Safari Illegal to Use on Windows?

After all that talk about Apple pushing the Safari "update" on Windows users (here and here), as it turns out, it's actually "illegal" for Windows users to install it! Read the first sentence in the image below and you'll see what I mean:

Analytics for YouTube Videos Launches

One of the most useful tools for us as owners of CyberNet News is Google Analytics because it gives us a great idea of where our visitors are coming from, what time of day they visit, and how long they stay for. This information helps us in numerous ways, and it's hard to imagine not having it available to use.

New Firefox Add-ons Site Launches

Mozilla has just launched their new Firefox Add-ons site that shows off a sparkling and freshly revamped interface. Back in February we took a glimpse at what a preview of the new add-ons site had to offer, and overall I would say that it is a really nice improvement over the prior version.

Apple’s WebKit Scores 100/100 on Acid3, too

I definitely wasn't expecting to see this today, but it looks as though the WebKit team has pushed hard to get a public nightly build of the Safari browser out that gets a perfect score on the Acid3 test. This is hot on the heals of Opera's announcement yesterday that they currently have an internal build of their own browser that is successfully passing the test.

Web-Based Photoshop Express Launches

As expected, Adobe has officially entered the World of online applications. Adobe is known best for their desktop software like their photo editing solutions (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Elements, etc.), and so it makes sense that their first web-based application is a basic version of Photoshop called Photoshop Express.

CyberNotes: Add/Remove Programs in the "Open With" Menu

In Windows when you right-click on a file there will likely be an "Open With" menu that lists the various applications that can be used to open that specific file. I use it all of the time because there's never really just one application that I want to open a file.

Internal Opera Build Passes Acid3 Test

It looks as though Opera could be the first browser to make it out the door with complete Acid3 support. The screenshot that you see above was released today by the Opera Desktop Team blog showing an internal build of the browser called WinGogi. According to the announcement a public preview version should be available within the next week:

Microsoft Slashes Xbox 360 Gamerscore for Cheaters

I really believe that the Xbox 360 is such a strong gaming system because of the community that is built around the Xbox LIVE service. It gives you the opportunity to play games online with or against millions of other people. But understandably people have found ways to circumvent the system to collect an unreasonable number of achievements.

Feedreader 3.13 Adds Article Editing

For those of you looking for a great desktop RSS feed reader I would put the free Feedreader 3.13 Beta at the top of my favorites. The new Beta that was just released yesterday adds a feature that I haven't seen in any other feed reader before: adding or editing articles. It sounds crazy, but I could see how this would be incredibly useful.

Fedora 9 Beta Brings More KDE & GNOME Goodness

Fedora 9 is stepping forward with their first Beta, and it looks like it has quite a few quality enhancements that both GNOME and KDE users alike will appreciate. Being a KDE fan myself I'm extremely happy to see that the Fedora team has taken the time to integrate the new KDE 4.0 into the operating system.

Google Docs Revamped: New Menus

A few weeks ago we posted an article about some of the tools Google uses internally. In the presentation that Google gave there was (inadvertently?) a screenshot of a Google Docs that was not available to the public. In it we saw a more complete menu structure located above the recently revamped toolbar. Well, they just added those menus to everyone's Google Docs.

Free Vista SP1 Support by Microsoft

Microsoft is obviously very anxious to get people to adopt Vista Service Pack 1 because for the next year they will be offering free technical support to help users get it up and running. This is not anything abnormal for those of you who have purchased retail copies of the operating system, but if Vista came with the computer you would be deferred to the manufacturer for any support.

DOJ Gives Thumbs-Up to XM/Sirius Merger

Sirius and XM have had a rough time over the last year trying to convince the Department of Justice to approve their merge. Over a year later and they've finally gotten approval. The rumor that they were working on a deal first became public back in February of 2007 and it's taken this long for them to get the thumbs-up from the DOJ to move ahead.
