No, Firefox 3 Isn’t Ready for Prime-Time

There is a lot of talking going around the Internet about Firefox 3 Beta being ready for mass usage. It's because of an article by Reuters where the creators of Firefox supposedly told them that the Firefox 3 Beta is ready for everyone to use after months of being in development.

2007 YouTube Video Award Winners…

The second annual YouTube Video Award nominees were announced last week (view 1st annual here). After a week of voting, the winners have been chosen! YouTube does this to reflect on the year and recognize the best videos of 2007, although now that we're three months into 2008, we've just about forgotten the happenings of 2007.

Would You Pay $50 for a Bloat-Free Computer?

Sony has begun to do what we have all been asking begging of computer manufacturers: deliver a bloat-free computer. There is a catch are several catches though. At this point the option is only available for a custom-configured Sony VGN-TZ2000, and Vista Business must be your operating system of choice.

Is Apple Recruiting Celebrities?

As if the iPhone's appearance at the Oscars didn't give Apple enough celebrity exposure, it looks like there are yet more celebrities promoting Apple products, even unlikely ones. When I say unlikely, I'm referring to homemaking diva Martha Stewart who recently wrote an entry on her blog that sounded like it would have been word-for-word from the mouths of the Apple Public Relations department.

CyberNotes: If you Got a Tattoo…

When people get tattoos, often times there's a special meaning behind the design whether it be a symbol for good luck, or the name of a family member. Apparently video games, video game characters, and computer and Internet companies hold special meaning to some people out there and so thanks to them, we have a nice collection of geeky tattoos for your viewing pleasure...

Best Buy Gives HD DVD Customers $50

If you were one of the unlucky ones to purchase a HD DVD player, you may not be completely out of luck. As most of you know by now, Toshiba has discontinued HD DVD and so while the players and movies still work just great, there won't be anymore movies released in the format ever again.

SlideRocket: Amazing Online Presentation Creator

Omar tipped me off yesterday to a rather amazing presentation creator currently in private Beta called SlideRocket. It's completely Flash-based, and the interface I would say is one of the best out of all the competing products.

Remember CanGoogleHearMe.com?

It's been a little over a year since we wrote about a site called Can Google Hear Me? As a refresher, the site was started by a guy on an adventure who used it to document his journey trying to get Google to hear his "great" idea. He got on a plane and headed to California so he could pitch his idea to the folks at Google, hoping they'd like it and bring him on to help make his dream a reality.

Apple Pushes Safari "Update" on Windows

Apple is obviously trying to attract some new users to the Safari 3.1 web browser that was just released on Tuesday, but I would say that they are using questionable methods to do so. I'm not sure how well you remember the World Wide Developers Conference last year when Steve Jobs announced how they planed to distribute Safari for Windows.

Diigo Version 3.0 Launches!

We've mentioned Diigo a handful of times on CyberNet already because it's a pretty popular tool for taking notes with your browser. Just this morning the company launched Diigo version 3.0, their first big update since 2006.

ESET SysInspector Computer Analysis

You may have noticed in the Daily Downloads today that I mentioned an application called ESET SysInspector that is currently in the Beta stage. From what I gather it's not an incredibly new application (released late last year), but this was the first that I had heard about it.

CyberNotes: Add Toolbars to Your Desktop

One of the things that I've come to realize with using a computer is that you can never have too many ways to launch an application. The Quick Launch bar is probably one of the most famous ways of doing so, and I've seen people who have a Quick Launch bar that takes up more than 50% of the Taskbar. Crazy, I know.

Locationbar² Updated for Firefox 3

One of my favorite Firefox extensions, Locationbar², has finally been updated to work with the recently released Firefox 3 Beta 4. It can be used to make the domain that you're currently viewing stand out more than the rest of the URL, which makes users less susceptible to phishing attacks.

Google Maps Gives Editing Rights to Users

Google has decided that they want their users to help make Google Maps as accurate as possible and so they have bestowed upon them editing rights. Now any user who is logged in to their Google account will be able to edit a place on the map, including move the marker. At this point, only those living in the United States, Australia and New Zealand can make edits.

Public SMF 2.0 Beta Download

We've always been a huge fan of the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) software that powers our forum, and I've recommended it to a lot of other people. This free forum software is about to get even better as they just made the first public version of SMF 2.0 Beta available, and after 18-months in the making it looks pretty darn nice.

One in Four Dell SSD Notebooks Returned?

I'm sure there are quite a few nerds tech-savvy individuals out there clamoring to get their hands on a computer that uses a Solid State Drive (SSD), but the pricetag is a little daunting. For example, to get a 64GB SSD in the MacBook Air it will run you an extra $1300.
