Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Available

A huge milestone for Ubuntu was just released! Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is only the second release of the popular Linux operating system to offer Long Term Support (LTS). The last version was 6.06 which is coming up on two years old, but they are still supporting it until June 2009 for the desktop and June 2011 for the server.

Mac Sales Up, iPod Sales Level Out in Q2

Ever since Apple switched to Intel processors, they've seen the sales of their Mac computers go up, and up, and up. Part of this is probably due to the fact that former PC users feel comfortable making the "switch" knowing they can run Windows if need be. Apple's fiscal second quarter just ended, and as the trend has been going lately, sales of Mac computers were up once again.

CyberNotes: Take Ownership of Files in Vista

Microsoft has made some good efforts to make Vista a lot more secure than previous versions of Windows by locking down files and folders on your system. They must have figured if it's verging on painful for you to move or delete the files then it would probably be difficult for viruses to do the same. What if you wanted to modify or delete a system file for one reason or another?

Microsoft’s I’m Initiative Raises $1.3M in a Year

In March 2007 Microsoft decided to give users even more of an incentive for using their Windows Live Messenger service. They started an initiative called I'm where part of the ad revenue would be shared from one of ten charities that you could pick from.

Tech Tops the Top 100 Brands List

Any successful business owner knows that one of the most important aspects to any business is branding which goes hand-in-hand with marketing. When a company or product has been successfully branded, people will be able to recognize it and will be more likely to use it because it's familiar (brand loyalty).

When Guitar Hero and Nerds Collide

It's pretty crazy the things geeks can come up with when they get an idea. A group of undergraduate students over at Texas A&M have obviously been playing too much Guitar Hero, and decided that they could make a robot to conquer the game for them. After much thought they have named their dubious creation Slashbot.

Download XP SP3

So Windows XP SP3 was finally completed on Monday which goes along with the release schedule that we had previously provided. TechNet and MSDN subscribers were furious that they would not be given the download until after it was released to the public, and looked at it as a slap in the face from Microsoft.

Apple Acquires Microprocessor Design Company

We already know that Steve Jobs is on the verge of being a control freak, so the news coming from Forbes today that Apple has agreed to purchase a microprocessor design company makes sense. The company is P.A. Semi, and it's rumored that Apple is willing to spend $278 million dollars in cash to acquire them.

Microsoft Releases Two More Ultimate Extras…

Any time that Vista Ultimate Extras were brought up last year (here, here and here), it was usually to talk about how disappointing that they were. Even though Vista launched in January, it took too long and too much silence from the Ultimate Extras team before they got anything pushed out the door.

CyberNotes: Top 10 Copy & Paste Firefox Extensions

Could you imagine going through a day of using your computer without being able to copy and paste stuff? I know, it sounds crazy! Being able to copy and paste saves me unbelievable amounts of time every day, and I have a huge appreciation for the copy/paste keyboard shortcuts.

iGoogle Catering to Stalkers, too

I'm guessing that a fair amount of you detest the social networks like MySpace and Facebook. Do they really have a purpose? I don't think that really matters to be honest. There is obviously value in letting one user stalk connect with another, and it has warped into an online phenomenon.

Sony Playstation Home Delayed… Again

Back last March, over a year ago, we wrote about how Sony was developing a virtual world where Playstation users would be able to go to interact with others online. At the time, we knew that it was going to be a free download, users would be able to purchase accessories, but most importantly, it was expected to be available around the globe by the Fall of 2007.

Wii Comes Up Big in March

About a month ago we took a look at how each of the consoles were still stacking up to each other in the U.S., and not surprisingly Nintendo was widely outselling the competition in both the handheld and console gaming markets. As March rolled on nothing much changed, except that Nintendo sold about 300,000 more Wii's than the previous month:

Earth Day Celebrated Around the Web

Today is April 22nd which means it's Earth Day in many countries around the World. It all started in 1970 when the first Earth Day was celebrated to coincide with the environmental movement. Around the web you'll find a handful of different sites celebrating the day by changing their logo. Social Web Browser Flock even launched a new "Eco-edition" of their browser just in time for the day.

Webware has just announced the winners of their Webware 100 contest for 2008. Just like last year, different sites were nominated and then Webware editors picked the finalists and users voted for their favorites. Clearly this year had a better turn-out of voters. Take a look at these stats:

CyberNotes: Free Color Pickers

Being a web developer I heavily rely on using a variety of colors in my designs. A tool that has always come in handy for me are color pickers. There are so many different color pickers available that I thought it may prove useful to outline some of my favorites for Windows. Don't worry... they are all free!

Get More File Previews in Vista’s Windows Explorer

Late last year I highlighted what I believed to be the 5 best features in Vista that often don't get any recognition. Among those features I talked about the file previews in the new Windows Explorer, which can be opened by going to Organize -> Layout -> Preview Pane.
