CyberNotes: iPhoto vs. Windows Photo Gallery

In the past we've written about Windows Photo Gallery and what a great job Microsoft has done with it. Not only is it a great way to manage photos, but it is also helpful for "fixing" (cropping, removing red-eye, etc.) them as well.

MyFive: Package Tracking Widgets

I don't know about you, but these days I find myself buying more and more stuff online rather than going to the store. Most things are cheaper on the Internet if you spend the time looking for a bargain, and nowadays many places will ship things for free. The problem is trying to keep up with all of the packages you're supposed to be receiving.

Optimized Google Reader & iGoogle for Your Sidebar

In the past we've talked about how useful the sidebar is for loading various sites in Opera and Firefox. Ryan even went through his top 10 favorite sidebar sites, most of which were created for mobile devices which means they load fast and fit the space nicely.

CyberNotes: Online Photo Services

It's so easy to take hundreds of pictures these days, but what is someone to do with all of those pictures once they've been taken? With the increase in popularity of digital cameras has come an increase in online photo services for printing your photos and and sharing them with others.

New Poll: Do You Take Advantage of Paperless Services?

More and more these days, there's a push to "go green" and part of that effort is reducing the amount of paper that we consume. Many companies over the last several years have been trying to go paperless wherever possible. One such example is cell phone companies who offer their subscribers the option to sign-up for paperless billing.

QuickCal Widget: Use Natural Language to Add iCal Events

Mac only One of my favorite features in Google Calendar is the "Quick Add" feature that lets you use a more natural language for adding events to the calendar. Apple iCal users can get a similar feature thanks to the free QuickCal Widget.

Helpful Tip: Disable UAC for a Program in Vista

I've read about how a lot of people have chosen to disable User Account Control (UAC) in Vista because of the headaches that can result from it. That's mostly because of applications that have not yet been programmed to run in a general user mode, and they are still accustomed to running as a privileged user just as they did in XP.

The Pricey Way to Get “Fit” with the Wii…

Sixteen months after the Nintendo Wii launched in the United States, and people are still having a hard time getting their hands on it. Sure it's gotten a little easier, but you still won't see a Wii sitting on the shelves at the store for very long.

Opera Mini Serving 2.4 Billion Page Views Per Month

Opera Mini was born back in 2005, but it wasn't put into the hands of the public until January 2006. Since that time the browser that fits in your pocket has experienced a tremendous rate of growth. As of March 2008 it has wiggled it's way into the hearts of over 44 million users. Pictured to the right is what their growth rate has looked like since its public launch.

TinEye: An Amazing Image Search Engine

There are all kinds of search engines out there that specialize in one specific area. Some of them are useful while others simply aren't. One of those specialized search engines to add to the "useful" list is TinEye. It's an image search engine which allows you to upload an image, or you can provide an image URL, and then it will tell you where the image appears on the web.

Newsgator Online Now Recommends Stories

A few months back Newsgator decided to switch up their business model and start offering their desktop feed readers at absolutely no cost. Some people were a little taken back that they would do this, and immediately began asking the question "how?" Well, they essentially want to track how you interact with your feeds.

Google Docs Gets Page View

Google Docs just added what I consider to be a feature that is needed to help bridge the gap between desktop and online word processing. They added a page view (as expected) that is typical of any desktop word processor, and it's almost like getting a live print preview while you work. To access the new setting go to the View menu, and select the fixed-width page view option.

Wireless Carriers Sued Over Text Messages

One of the big complaints many people have always had with cell-phone providers over the years is that they like to charge on both ends, meaning they charge you for outgoing and incoming calls. Now we know not all providers do this because some do offer free incoming calls, but a majority of the providers out there, at least the ones we know of, still do this.

Dropbox Beta Invites for All!

Windows; Mac Back in March when we wrote about a new service in private beta called Dropbox, there were all kinds of people interested in it and wanting to get in on the private beta to try it out. We were able to give out 50 invites, but there were still many, many people who wanted an invite, but were unable to get one.

Google Sites Opens Its Doors to Everybody

Back in February we saw Jotspot resurface as Google Sites, a service for creating group websites. After reviewing it, it looked like a great way for people to easily create a website that had a customizable look and feel. The only problem at its launch was that it was available only to those with a Google Apps account. As of late yesterday, Google Sites is now open to everybody.
