CyberNotes: Add the Date To Mac Menubar Clock

Mac only When on a Windows computer one of the things I always did was make the Taskbar twice the normal height. The reason I did that was because it would then show the date in addition to the time, which is something I use quite regularly. Sure I could have hovered my mouse over the time to see the same information, but that often took more time than was necessary.

In Israel today Steve Ballmer told the press that Vista is selling very well, and that it is the operating system of choice for nearly 100% of new consumer PC's.

After Nearly 3 Years, Techmeme Adds Search Feature

There are hundreds of sites I visit pretty regularly, but one site I visit every single day is Techmeme. Some of you may be regular visitors to the site as well because they track what's going on in the tech blogosphere. All it takes is a quick glance up and down the page and you've got yourself a great idea of what's going on and where the discussions are.

Microsoft Forking Out $$$ to Lure in Search Users

We've known for a while that Microsoft is not content being solely a software company. They know the Internet is a place they need to be, but so far they've struggled with trying to get people to use their search site. Google comes in first when it comes to search market share with Yahoo in 2nd and Microsoft in a distant 3rd. So what's a company to do to lure in more users? Pay them cash!

Sellers Can’t Leave Negative Feedback on eBay

eBay has really got their work cutout for themselves this time. They have decided, as expected, that it's time to block sellers from leaving neutral or negative feedback for buyers. Oh, and to make matters even worse they are now counting neutral feedback left by buyers as a negative when calculating the feedback score, which is sure to drop the score of many sellers.

Netflix’s First Streaming Box Gets Good Reviews

When Steve Jobs first announced the Apple TV, a device for playing digital content from iTunes, he was probably expecting it to become more of a hit than what it is. Sales aren't exactly stellar which leaves plenty of room for competition to come in and steal the show. In this case, it's Netflix's first streaming box made by Roku which in some ways, is coming in to shine brighter than the Apple TV.

The Revival of Napster…Again? 6 Million Song DRM-Free Library

I swear that Napster is as close as it gets to a cat with 9-lives. In 1999 it started off as a file sharing service that exploded with popularity. People could share and download songs freely, but the service was doomed to failure since it used central servers to connect one user to another.

CyberNotes: Bulk Rename Files on Mac & Windows

I enjoy taking digital pictures, but the part that I don't like is copying them over to the computer. The file names are always such a mess, and are typically along the lines of DSC000022.JPG which doesn't help at all when trying to identify a photo. One of the first things that I do after transferring the photos over to the computer is rename them in bulk.

Naturally Windows XP users have been wanting to upgrade to the latest and greatest Service Pack 3, but it seems as though some users are getting an unexpected surprise. If you have a desktop by HP/Compaq with an AMD processor you may find that your computer shows a blue screen of death (BSoD) when starting up. And to top it all off it won't stop rebooting.
