An office suite is just one of those things we wouldn’t be able to be productive without. Both Ryan and I use various office suite applications every single day, so it’s one of the very first things that always gets installed on our computers. With online office suites recently gaining momentum, we thought we’d poll CyberNet readers to see if online office suites are really gaining some ground or if desktop based office suites like Microsoft Office, Apple iWork, and OpenOffice.org are still the favorite.
NEW POLL: What Office Suite Do You Use?
- Microsoft Office
- Google Docs
- OpenOffice.org
- Zoho
- Apple iWork
- Other

Previous Poll Wrap-Up
Once again, you guys and gals amazed us with how many photos you have, just as you did with how much music you have stored on your hard drive.
Here’s what we found: 22% of you have between 1 and 500 pictures stored on your computer but 14% of you, the next largest group, have over 30,000! Wow, you put our 6,500 pictures to shame. Coming in third was 11% of you with between 5,000 and 10,000 photos.

Been using OpenOffice for sometime now when someone else recommend it. We even use it at my work. This computer came loaded with MS Office and MS Works, neither of which I have touched. Just went ahead and installed OpenOffice instead.
OpenOffice is great, but sometimes I just have to use Google Docs, which is also pretty great. Always good to keep a backup online.
I use M$ Office for work stuff ~ but only because I essentially “have to” for compatibility with clients/colleagues.
I use Google for personal stuff.
I’d love to use OpenOffice.org but dang, Microsoft Office 2007 looks sweet! I actually use an old beta version of Office 2007 so I have to turn back the clock on my machine to avoid the “beta has expired” message. It’s the oldest trick in the book!
Well I used to use Microsoft office. OpenOffice came along and I have been a happy user since 1.0, looking forward to 3.0. I use OpenOffice at home and Microsoft Office at work (not my choice).
I use Office 2003/7 at work. And XP at home …
Never tried Google Docs … neither OpenOffice … due to lack of time …
I’ve been using Open Office since 1.4 and currently trying the 3.0beta, but while attending an IBM seminar, they mentioned about their FREE Lotus SYMPHONY Office Suite, now out of beta, and is based on Open Office codes available at symphony.ibm.com
sorry for the wrong link above, it should be symphony.lotus.com
I think more and more companies are trying to cut costs, and one way to do this is by using OpenOffice.org.
It’s great, isn’t it? I loved Office 2007 and miss it quite a bit now that I am using Office 2008 for Mac.
True Openoffice is not as good as MS office but the price you pay for that is not justified.
i used to be a diehard office 2003 user until i switched to a linux environment. from there, openoffice stole my heart. however, with buying a new laptop with vista, office 2007 has been a real boon to both my creativity and productivity. i am excited to see what oo brings to the table with their stable 3.0 release, but they have a uphill battle to compete against office 2007.
I actually used OpenOffice up until a public Beta of Microsoft Office 2007 was available. After using it just a little while I fell in love with the new office suite.
