Microsoft Tries to Remedy Sites that don’t Work in IE8

As you probably already know Internet Explorer 8 is going to be more standards compliant than previous versions of the web browser. While that sounds great to us geeks that understand what that means it also poses a problem for casual computer users who only care whether a site works or not.

Simplicity at its Finest: Quintessential Media Player

Media players are becoming an increasingly important part of our daily lives. Many of us listen to music while we work, study, or just browse the Internet. The chances are pretty good that you're using a media player such as iTunes, Windows Media Player, or Winamp, but there's one more that's worth checking out.

Safari 4 Beta is Worth a Look

Today Apple kind of took everyone by surprise when they released a big milestone for the Safari browser. The new Safari 4 Beta from Apple borrows some ideas from their competition, and they spiced it up a bit with some fancy graphics. This is most notably seen in the "Top Sites" screen as seen in the image above.

Hulu Blocks Boxee… Community Finds Workaround

Last week Hulu announced that they were going to be blocking access for Boxee and TV.com because of pressure from content providers. This obviously makes sense because Hulu still looks as though they are having a hard time capitalizing on advertisements when being compared to what they're able to sell on TV.

Google Chrome Master Password Still Non-Existent?

I really love the Google Chrome browser, but it seems as though the development team has been overlooking a huge security issue that I thought would be resolved by now. If you save passwords in the browser (like a lot of other users do) you may find out the hard way that the passwords are not stored in a manor that would keep other people from quickly accessing the data.

Run Multiple Versions of IE in Vista

For the most part Microsoft hasn't made it very easy for people who want to run multiple versions of Internet Explorer on their machine, which can be difficult for web developers who need to test sites against older versions of the browser. A new tool, however, called Internet Explorer Collection will let you pick and choose which versions you would like installed on your computer.

Make Firefox Remember Passwords without a Bookmarklet

A few years ago we wrote about a handy bookmarklet that would make Firefox remember passwords on some sites that ordinarily wouldn't, like Yahoo! or Paypal. Some people on the article were reporting that this no longer works in Firefox 3, but one anonymous commenter referenced a rather clever workaround.

Browser & OS Stats for January 2009: What’s Going on Microsoft?

The last time we did a report on the operating system and browser stats was back in October 2008. At the time Google Chrome was just starting to gain some traction, and it was still too early to tell whether Apple's new MacBooks would help them attract new users to their platform.

Organize Your Desktop with Fences

Most of the time I use my computer's desktop as a temporary holding place for things that I need to organize later on. It's normally filled with attachments that have been downloaded from emails, apps I've downloaded to try out, and more. My goal is to always have a clear desktop because that means I've filed everything away, but that rarely happens.

Windows Extended Task Manager

It's normally safe to say that diehard geeks like to know what's going on inside their machine. If you fall into that category then you've probably already tried tools that manage and monitor your PC, but there is also another free task manager that does a great job of adding functionality onto the semi-decent tool that's included with Windows.
