Everything: Search and Find Local or Networked Files

Last year we ran through a couple performance-friendly desktop search applications for those of you that don't want a program constantly indexing your machine, and today we have another nice alternative. It's a free Windows app called Everything that, unlike the others mentioned in the article I referenced, does index your drive automatically over time.

Mac-Like Stacks in RocketDock

RocketDock is definitely one of my favorite application launchers because of how well it is designed to mimic the functionality of the Mac Dock. It can also be extended with skins to change the appearance, or with docklets to add more features.

IE8 in Windows 7 is Nice

I've got a lot of friends I talk with that are already running Windows 7 RC1 as their primary operating system, and they are very impressed with it. Many of them are rather diehard Firefox or Google Chrome fans, but all of them admit that Internet Explorer 8 handles nicely in the operating system. All of them even gave me the same reason... awesome integration with the new Taskbar.

KwiClick: Faster Searching in Firefox

I'm always on the lookout for a good Firefox extension, and I got an email the other day about one I've really fallen in love with. It's called KwiClick, and it does exactly what I look for in an extension... it stays out of my way until I need it, and when I do use it I get the results I want.

Keep Windows Always on Top with DeskPins

When you're working around your computer sometimes it can be useful to pin a window to the top. Basically that will ensure that it will stay on top no matter what other window you currently have focused.

What do you Think of Wolfram?

Last week Wolfram Alpha launched, and I immediately started playing around with it. Like every other search engine Wolfram focuses on being able to take your input and try to return the data you're looking for, but don't expect it to grab results like those you find at Google.

Desktop Firefox Extension: Another Speed Dial Concept

When Opera introduced Speed Dial into their browser I didn't realize quite how big of a hit it would become. Now most browsers are shipping with some sort of iteration of this feature that is capable of showing thumbnail previews for the sites you frequently visit. It's basically a visual way to view your favorite sites.

CyberSearch Passes 50,000 Downloads

Our homegrown CyberSearch Firefox extension has hit a big milestone last week as it passed the 50,000 download mark! I never expected the extension to be that well received, but I'm happy to see that so many users are finding it to be useful.

Browser & OS Stats for April 2009: Windows Losing Share

The last time we did a report on the operating system and browser stats was back in January 2009. In January Chrome was starting to take off as it passed 1% market share, and both Windows and Internet Explorer suffered some big blows as their competition scooped up some of their precious users.

One Year After “The Switch…”

"Switching operating systems is just like moving to a new city. If you've moved, you know there's some fun and excitement to exploring new places but there's some discomfort because it is unfamiliar and it might take you longer to get to where you need to go or you might get lost on occasion.
