Stick: Launch Applications, Manage Files, and Take Notes

I'm always on the lookout for unique apps, and Stick is one of those that is unlike most others. Some may say it's an application launcher or even a note taker, but it really just comes down to what you decide to use it for.

Customize the Firefox Address Bar Style/Appearance

There are some Firefox themes that I absolutely love, but they don't always get everything the way that I like them. One of the areas I'm rather particular about is the Address Bar drop-down menu that appears once you start typing. A good example of this was a theme I tested out recently that styled both the title and URL in the exact same fashion.

Free Windows System Explorer

Keeping tabs on my machine is something I've done for as long as I can remember. I like watching the performance of my applications, monitoring network connections, and all of that stuff most people would never think twice about.

SPlayer: A Light and Fast Media Player

These days computers are becoming more and more of a media hub for users to watch movies or television shows on. For awhile I've switched between a handful of media players including VLC, KMPlayer, and GOM. All of those are excellent in their own way, and now I think I'll also have to add SPlayer to the list.

How to Run Linux Apps Natively On Windows

I consider myself a Windows guy, but there are things I prefer doing on Linux mainly because of its advanced terminal. My unwillingness to pick a side has some inconvenient implications: rebooting into Linux every time takes too much time and virtualized Linux tends to be a little slow on most machines.

Control Your House Lights (and more) with Your iPhone

Recently I started to look into ways to make my home a "smart home." I've been wanting to do it for awhile, but had never taken the time to research how easy or complex it was. For some odd reason I had it set in my mind that it would require a lot of additional wiring in my house to get it done, but boy was I wrong.

Display Battery Life on the Windows 7 Taskbar

Awhile ago I wrote an article that covered various ways you can monitor the remaining battery life of your laptop, but I was starting to wonder what kind of apps developers had come up with for Windows 7 users. Interestingly enough on that same article a commenter, Chris, talked about a nice free app called BatteryBar that did everything I was looking for.

Windows 7 Jumplist Launcher

I am a big fan of the redesigned Taskbar in Windows 7 because it provides faster access to the things I want/need, and one of the ways it does that is through the jumplists that appear whenever you right-click on an icon regardless of whether the app is actually running.

Amazon’s Warehouse Deals Save You Money

I'm sure many of you have bought at least one thing from Amazon, and some of you are probably frequent shoppers. Maybe it's their competitive pricing, the fact that you don't get charged tax on the items you buy (for most states, at least), or maybe you fork over the $70 a year so that you get free 2nd shipping on most of your purchases.

Bulk Open Links in Firefox

A little while back we wrote about a cool Firefox extension called Snap Links that would let you draw a box around a bunch of hyperlinks with your mouse, and have them all open in new tabs. I loved this extension, but the sad news is that it hasn't received an update in well over two years.
