When viewing the entire United States I was expecting to see thousands of those things, but it did a good job of picking just a few so that the map wasn't cluttered.

I actually thought the weather tool was pretty cool because as you zoom closer into an area it would display more “weather balloons”. Also Casey's... that was a new one for me too.@OMD: I didn't think about that, but I imagine that's a great tool for bikers, runners, walkers, etc. Now I'm curious how long my usual walking route is.

@taf: I can only imagine what your different name was .I hadn’t heard of them either until I moved to Iowa, but there are a bunch of them around here. They don't have any down here in Louisiana, but when I lived in Iowa my friends and I had a different name for that gas station. Not sure it would be appropriate to post what we called it, but the second word was evacuate.taf

I had to chuckle when I saw the Kum and Go bubble. Would come in handy when measuring out a route for a bike ride. I tested it with a short ride I do, that I know the distance for. It is very accurate.I just wonder when they (Google) plans to add it to the main Google Maps page as a permanent tab?

The Distance Measurement Tool looks to be the only current one that I find useful for myself.
