I'm not sure how easy it is to upgrade the graphics card in the computer because I didn't take it apart. The heat will probably become a problem after sitting on your laptop for 15 to 30 minutes, so you might want to get a small lap desk. If you put it on a flat surface the heat build up isn't too bad as long as it has room to dissipate.

I would say that this is a good laptop for carrying around in a backpack. It isn't extremely heavy, and the casing is very smooth so it will slide in and out easily.

Hey, nice review, thinking of buying this laptop or else the dell xps 1710. The reason I'd choose this instead is that it is easier to carry around and maybe the graphics card is easier to upgrade. I heard that alienware use standard components so replacing the graphics card wouldn't be too difficult. Have you seen anything like this?

Also with the heat problems, I spend a good bit of time with my laptop on my lap so is the heat really intense? And does it build up more on your lap than on a flat surface?

Also is it easy to carry around in a backpack?

Thanks for the review again.

You touched on the areas of information that I like to know. Whenever I read reviews that have a ton of benchmarking, I normally skip past all that crap and move on to the conclusion.

I particularly liked the First impressions section with the color coded Very Good, Good Ok & Not Good listings.

I'm glad you liked it. I tried to orient the review more to what I would be looking for when purchasing a computer, which is normally battery life, screen clarity, and overall ergonomics for carrying it around and typing. So many sites just do the benchmarks because that is what takes the least amount of time to do, since they just have to start the benchmarking tool and walkaway.

I also noticed that you mentioned the different position for the delete key. I've been using a Toshiba laptop at work for programing, and they also put the delete just left of the arrows. I'm so used to having it right over the backspace button that now every time I sit down at a computer I press the wrong buttons a few times. Combine that with annoying pageup/down buttons and I lose random characters in my code from time to time. Not cool!

I had never seen a laptop with the Delete key down by the arrows, or I've at least never noticed it. I thought it was a little awkward just because of what I'm already used to.
