I think the WEI can be a good benchmarking system if you're wondering how well it will run Vista, since Microsoft is the one doing the benchmarking and they made the operating system. There is no way that it is as detailed as what TomsHardware and the others provide though because it only takes a few minutes to run, when in reality all of the needed benchmarks would take much longer.

I use TomsHardware.com all of the time because it is a very informative site. There exist several excellent synthetic benchmarks that are much more scientific, and hardware review sites have been setting up benchmarks using real applications for ages. WEI is an approximation, if you really want to know what hardware performs best you should check out a reputable hardware review site and/or download some REAL benchmarking software yourself. I personally recommend tomshardware.com, although anandtech.com and hardocp.com also very good. There are a good number of scientifically based hardware review sites, so no need to worry about spin.

I can almost guarantee the benchmarking used for WEI is not as comprehensive and accurate as other, well established benchmarking means.
