CyberNotes: Google Chrome Tips

Google Chrome has taken the browser market by storm ever since its release a few weeks ago. The only complaint that I've really heard about the browser is that it doesn't support add-ons like Firefox does, but Google has already said that a future version will be covering those bases.

A Look at the First Google Android Phone

Today was a pretty big day for Google's Android project with the unavailing of the first Android powered phone at the T-Mobile Google Android Event. Making an appearance at the event was Google's own Sergey and Larry. Apparently they were trying to come in with a bang, because they entered on rollerblades.

Google Docs Gets Dictionary and Table of Contents Features

Previously if you wanted to insert a Table of Contents into your Google Docs document, or look-up the definition of a word, you had to use some JavaScript to make it happen because Google hadn't officially launched the features. Now they have and they are easily available to users.

Gmail Labs Gets Three More Features

Remember those Gmail Labs features that Google launched back in June? They included features for Gmail like mouse gestures, the option to choose from additional star icons, and more. The great thing about all of these features are that each is opt-in so that only the additional features you want added, will be added to your Gmail account.

Google Reduces Time It Stores Your Data

In the past we have heard some of you express concern over Google's storage of personal data. It's simply part of their business that they store bits of information from their users, but they always pledge to keep that information private. They've changed their privacy policy on several occasions, and once again they have changed it.

Search Old Newspapers Online with Google News Archive

Yesterday Google announced something that will be hard for anybody to find fault with, simply because it is pretty beneficial to the masses. What they are doing is taking the time to team up with various newspaper publishers to get some of the old newspapers scanned in and available online.

What do You Think of Google Chrome?

The Google Chrome web browser launched yesterday almost 24-hours after Google announced that it would be coming. That gave quite a few media sites enough time to built up hype for the upcoming release, but the question is whether Google was able to deliver the first time around.

Easier Tagging System Comes to Google’s Picasa

One of the best ways to sort digital photos these days is to tag them. Not only do tags help with sorting the photos, they make viewing photos of certain people or events easier. The only hassle involved is the time it takes to actually apply tags, especially if there are lots of people in the photos. If only there was a more "automatic" way to do it....

Unofficial Google Desktop Suite

It's always surprised me that Google has a few desktop applications (Picasa, Google Desktop Search, Google Talk, etc...), but for one reason or another they don't have any programs that leverage some of their other big services. Having a program for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and several others would all make a lot of sense in my book.

Android Phone Launches in September?

As mentioned back in June, T-Mobile is set to be the first mobile phone carrier to launch an Android powered mobile phone. We were originally expecting it sometime in the 4th quarter, but it looks as though we may get it a little earlier than expected. Gizmodo reports that September 17th is the big day. It's the day that T-Mobile and HTC will be launching an HTC phone powered by Android.

Google Reader Adds Privacy Control to Sharing

One of the frustrations that many Google Reader users experience is with the sharing feature. Back in December, Google Reader and Google Talk became "Friends." This meant that any time you went to share an item, all of your friends on your Google Talk list were able to see what you shared. There was no way to select who you wanted to be able to view a shared item.

MobileMe and Gmail Outage Yesterday

Yesterday was a day of outages for MobileMe and Gmail. Apple's MobileMe, which had a rocky introduction to begin with, saw a four and a half hour mail outage yesterday. MacRumors mentioned this outage yesterday but also took a look at MobileMe's overall uptime which is about 96%. That's not an impressive number when you put it into perspective.
