HP & Dell Joining UMPC Market

It looks as though the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) market is going to start expanding rather rapidly. Earlier today jkOnTheRun noticed that HP started selling the HP Mini-Note UMPC at an actually affordable price ranging from $499 to $849. What really differentiates this from the Asus Eee PC is that you can get a normal SATA hard drive up to 160GB in size as opposed to just Solid State Drives.

The New BlackBerry 9000

We know a lot of our readers are owners of BlackBerry devices, and so many of you will be interested to get your first glimpse of the BlackBerry 9000, the latest device from RIM. Pictured above is the brand spankin' new BlackBerry. I must say that the first thought that popped into my head was that it reminded me, in one way at least, of the iPhone because of the silver rim/border around the phone.

Sony Hears Ya, Removes Bloatware-Free Fee

We've received several emails in the last hour or so from our readers regarding Sony offering the "Fresh Start" bloatware-free option on one of their high-end laptops. The emails were not complaining about the $50 fee being charged to get a PC without the crapware, but instead they were all letting us know that Sony has changed their mind and will not be charging for it.

At this point the option is only available for a custom-configured Sony VGN-TZ2000, and Vista Business must be your operating system of choice.

Is Apple Recruiting Celebrities?

As if the iPhone's appearance at the Oscars didn't give Apple enough celebrity exposure, it looks like there are yet more celebrities promoting Apple products, even unlikely ones. When I say unlikely, I'm referring to homemaking diva Martha Stewart who recently wrote an entry on her blog that sounded like it would have been word-for-word from the mouths of the Apple Public Relations department.

Apple Computer Market Share Progress Report

When Apple opened the very first Apple retail store back in 2001, one of the main goals was to increase their market share.  At the time, they were sitting at around 5%, and BBC News quoted Steve jobs as saying, "Apple has about 5% of the market share today and the other 95% don't even consider us." Seven years later, it looks like some of the 95% who never even considered buying Mac computers are now not only considering it, they're actually buying them.

Microsoft Knows How to Get Us Excited About the Future

If there's one thing that I can give Microsoft credit for it's getting me excited about the future of technology. Even though Bill Gates disappointed me with his "future" segment at CES 2008, I would say that Microsoft has redeemed themselves with a presentation that they gave at MIX08.
